What is BaselineTV Media Manager?

BaselineTV Media Manager is promoted as “a large YouTube network that promotes all type of media content on YouTube.” However, if you investigate the official website in more details, you may find out that it is mainly responsible for providing its partners with high-quality advertisements on their videos and getting them paid the most for their videos. Thus, BaselineTV Media Manager can hardly offer something beneficial to ordinary Internet users because it has been developed for advertising purposes mainly.

Security experts have recently included it to the ‘adware’ and ‘potentially unwanted program’ (PUP) categories due to several drawbacks that it has. First of all, it has been found that it can bypass almost all anti-spywares and slither onto users’ computers without asking for a direct permission. If you end up with BaselineTV Media Manager virus on your machine, you may notice browser’s slowdowns and an increased amount of sponsored advertisements during your browsing. Of curse, since this app is a partner of YouTube, every YouTube video may be complemented with an excessive amount of BaselineTV Media Manager ads; However, you may also receive irritating pop-up ads, banner ads or in-text links withing other websites as well. These ads may be related to unknown third-party domains some of which may even be unsafe. Even more, the emergence of such ads also inform about the risk to the information kept on your PC. It has been found that BaselineTV Media Manager redirects and ads are organized after analyzing your search and browsing histories. However, the adware may gather such data as IP address, PC’s location, email address, and similar non-personal data that can be used for suspicious purposes. How can BaselineTV Media Manager hijack my computer?

For BaselineTV Media Manager promotion, two strategies are applied. The app has the official website and can be downloaded directly right there. However, it’s developers also apply a mush more deceptive marketing technique – ‘bundling’, which tricks people into installing the tool without noticing it. It can spread bundled with such popular programs as various download managers, PDF converters, media streaming software and so on. Besides, it has been found spreading via such well known websites as download.com, soft32.com, cnet.com, softonic.com, and so on. Thus, whenever you decide to install a freeware make sure that you check it carefully. In order to find out its attachments, you should opt for Advanced/Custom installation option and check the entire installation process step-by-step. Finally, don’t miss to opt out of the ticks marked alongside ‘additional components’.
