Remove Bright Light Ads (Removal Instructions)

removal by Jake Doevan - - | Type: Adware

Why Bright Light belongs to adware category?

The question indicated above makes it clear that Bright Light is an adware. However, it’s important to name the reason/-s why it has been classified this way. To start with, we would like t mention the fact that this adware is promoted in a deceptive manner. It’s developers (not specified) claim that this browser add-on will enhance user’s web browsing experience by improving the quality of online videos, set the lightning, and so on. We have tested this app in our internal lab and cannot say that it’s working as promised. The improvement of videos is questionable, but the more attention catching this is abnormal web browser’s performance.

Upon successful installation, Bright Light virus lands on all web browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari) and drops an extension on each of them forcefully. Right after that, our malware analysts have noticed the following issues:

  • Browser’s slowdowns;
  • More frequent browser’s crashes/freezes;
  • An excessive amount of advertisements (“Ads by Bright Light,” “Bright Light Ads,” “Brought by Bright Light,” etc.);
  • Random browser’s redirects to unknown/fishy-looking websites.

All adware, in general, are used for marketing purposes. They are like money spinning machines that involve people into a vicious circle of the pay-per-click system and modification of web traffic. Thus, if you are not willing to help third parties earn easy money for promoting doubtful products for questionable prices, we would recommend you not to click on any of the ads that Bright Light virus shows. At best, those pop-ups may reroute you to Amazon, Walmart, eBay or another reliable shopping site. However, there is a handful of instances when Bright Light redirects exposed people to questionable domains that promote malware (Reimage, Total System Care, Super Optimizer, etc.). Such browser’s redirects can cause other PC’s infection.

Questions about Bright Light Ads

Another noteworthy fact is that Bright Light virus tracks its users. For this purpose, it installs tracking cookies and web beacons that allow collecting browsing-related information about a PC user. Its aspiration is to collect search queries, mostly visited pages, information typed in them, clicks, approximate geolocation, email address, PC’s IP address, and so on. Third parties typically analyze such information and use it for custom advertising. However, some of the parties may use it for more suspicious purposes, such as email spamming and malware distribution. Therefore, be careful.

Thus, to prevent all the risk that Bright Light pop-up ads pose, make sure that you remove this adware from the system ASAP. For that, try using Reimage.

How can I get infected?

Bright Light adware is also known as a PUP (potentially unwanted program). It means that it is distributed using unfair means. According to security experts, it can be injected in the web browsers using three techniques:

  1. Deceptive official website. It seems that Bright Light malware has had the official website, which is no longer active, so the chances of direct installation are equal to zero.
  2. Fake software update prompts. Bright Light adware can be hidden under Java, Flash Payer, Media Player or another popular upgrade.
  3. ‘Bundling.’ The biggest chance to start receiving “Ads by Bright Light” during browsing is to install free software absently. Bundling allows distribution of software packages where one constituent is a free program, and the other/-s are third-party add-ons, toolbars or extensions. Thus, to protect web browser from Bright Light hijack, always check freeware’s Advanced/Custom settings and untick ‘additional components.
