Eridanus ads. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)
Eridanus adware. What is it?
Eridanus is not a tool that you should download on your web browser. Although it promises to enhance your web browsing experience on Chrome, Safari, IE (Microsoft Edge), and Firefox, that is not necessarily true. In fact, this application is the one that requires an urgent removal because it can corrupt your PC’s security, “open the gates” to various cyber threats, diminish web browser’s performance, and expose a suspicious content to you every day. If you are reading this post, we can make a conclusion that you have already installed Eridanus adware on your PC’s system. In this case, we highly recommend you to perform a full system check with a reliable anti-spyware, such as Reimage.
How does this adware behave?
- Usually, Eridanus is spread alongside various free programs, such as PDF creators, media players or download managers. This way, it can slither onto computers without being recognized and start initiating various marketing campaigns. However, first of all, it has to create a Windows startup key and enable several processes within Task Manager. Also, it has to inject an add-on to each web browser and only then it gets a free medium to display third-party advertisements that it is set to display. If you do not remove Eridanus virus on time, you may encounter suspicious third parties that can put your virtual security at a higher risk level. The main task of this ad-supported browser extension is to display third-party advertisements. All pop-up ads, banner ads, in-text links, pop-unders, interstitials, and other forms of “Ads by Eridanus” or “Eridanus Ads” are injected into Eridanus ads’ database beforehand. Therefore, there is no chance of not seeing them as long as this adware hides inside your PC’s system.
- Although commercial and non-commercial advertisements may not seem like a big deal for you, you should not be mistaken by this light-seeming performance. It’s natural that each of the ads have a destination website. Thus, keep in mind that Eridanus redirects can cause you lots of troubles if compared to the annoyance of the ads. That’s because you can be redirected to irrelevant or even unsafe websites full of misleading content (prize giveaways, software update prompts, various links, etc.).
- People have reported that Eridanus ads are usually very appealing. We’ve checked that. Usually, those ads inform about deals and discounts that are related to people’s recent research items and services. For example, if you’ve been looking for a trendy satchel, Eridanus pop-ups may seduce you to click on them by providing you with the latest models of satchels from Amazon, eBay, and less known online shops. For this purpose, Eridanus virus installs cookies and continuously tracks your browsing activities and transmits browsing-related information about you. Disapprove of such activity? Then do not postpone Eridanus removal.
How Eridanus PUP is spread?
Eridanus is spread along with other free programs as an attachment. The freeware that carries third-party add-ons, toolbars or extensions behind the back are referred to as software bundle. It’s vital to stick to the mind the fact that software packages are very misleading, but can quite easily be decomposed. For this purpose, you have to choose Advanced or Custom installation and sacrifice your spare time reading all the terms and looking for third-party apps. If you find a notification saying that you agree to install Eridanus add-on or another untrustworthy app, make sure that you untick it before the installation is finished.
Manual or automatic removal?
Eridanus, just like any other PUP, can be eliminated from the system and web browsers manually. However, application of this removal option is questionable even if we speak about the lowest level security threats. That’s because manual removal after software bundle’s hijack will not ensure removal of all suspicious components. Therefore, choose wisely and check your PC with an anti-malware in any way.
You can remove virus damage automatically with a help of one of these programs: Reimage, Malwarebytes MalwarebytesCombo Cleaner, Plumbytes Anti-MalwareMalwarebytes Malwarebytes. We recommend these applications because they detect potentially unwanted programs and viruses with all their files and registry entries that are related to them.
