Goliath ransomware virus. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)

Goliath — a ransomware virus on sale

Hall of Ransomware is a new TOR website that came up recently, supposedly putting the notorious Locky virus and never-before-heard Goliath virus up for sale. The Goliath virus is said to be based on the Locky source code and is sold for $2,100 USD. This shady website also offers some extra purchases, such as the USB keys for Locky and Goliath decryption. These keys supposedly unlock the files encrypted by these two ransomware and eliminates the virus from the computer automatically. However, such claims are unlikely to be true. The website is full of spelling and grammar mistakes which suggest a rather careless approach of the website creators. So why trust some amateur hackers, when even the best cyber security professionals have not come up with the decryption tool yet? Besides, after some investigation, we were not able to find any report on the Goliath ransomware attacks, so it is likely that this virus does not really exist either. In case you have been infected with this ransomware, remove Goliath from your computer ASAP. Make sure you use reliable antivirus tools like Reimage to do that.

The example of Goliath ransomware virus purchase site

It is interesting that for the Goliath virus to run, the computer has to be equipped with a powerful GPU card. This characteristic is more typical to the BitCoin and CryptoCoin mining viruses as regular ransomware usually do not require high computer capacities to be able to lock the containing files. So, it seems that this time, the cyber criminals are targeting their colleagues. But you should not let down your guard either. Ransomware viruses are very malicious, and once they infiltrate your computer, you may lose your files for good.

The Hall of Ransomware website also seems to be linked to another ransomware program, the Jigsaw virus. The similar amateur style of the website and the ransomware suggest that they both can be created by the same hackers in an attempt to gather even more revenue.

How can I avoid ransomware infection?

Either it is Goliath, Locky or Jigsaw, all of these viruses work by a similar principle and can be very destructive once they enter the computer. Despite the Hall of Ransomware site, where you can supposedly download ransomware directly, the usual way they spread is more deceptive and stealthy. They are often distributed as attachment files which arrive together with spam emails directly to your inbox. Therefore, you should be very careful with the new correspondence that shows up in your email. If the letters seem to have arrived from some governmental institution or other serious source, always check the legitimacy of the email and do not hesitate to contact the sender for confirmation. Also, equip your computer with a reliable antivirus system and keep it on guard at all times. But most importantly, backup your files regularly and keep them on some external hard drive. This way, you will be sure that your data is safe and you can successfully recover it in a case of an emergency.

What should you do if the ransomware infiltrated your PC?

Security specialists doubt that Goliath virus really exists but if you suddenly find it residing on your computer, you should not wait and remove it immediately. Do not try downloading the Goliath decryption key as suggested in the Hall of Ransomware site, because this tool may also carry an infection and inflict even more damage. You should use reputable antivirus tools to remove Goliath from your computer successfully. Do not forget to keep your antivirus software updated, to eliminate the possible vulnerabilities which the virus may use to interrupt the scan. If the Goliath removal still fails, follow the instructions provided below and try scanning your system again.
