Remove referral spam (Free Instructions)

removal by Ugnius Kiguolis - - | Type: Spam tools

What is the definition of referral spam? is a recently released referral spam bot, which pretends to be driving web traffic to your website. It seeks to corrupt your Google Analytics data with fictitious web traffic – it distorts the accuracy of these key metrics:

  • Total Sessions;
  • Bounce Rate;
  • Conversion Rate;
  • Users.

Let’s make it clear – you should not think that spam actually drives real, even if not useful web traffic to your site. This spam bot only attacks your Google Analytics page. It uses Google Analytics Management Protocol, which lets them register a fake visit to your site. All they need is your Google Analytics code. So do not rejoice because of the increase in your web traffic rate – it is actually fake and worthless.

As a matter of a fact, Ghost Spam is not some malicious spammer, it cannot do harm on your website, diminish your website’s Google rankings or web traffic rates. However, this spam parasite should not be tolerated in case you want to see real Google Analytics statistics. The problem is that you might not be able to realistically appraise the web traffic rate of your website, and, as a consequence, it might force you to make possibly wrong decisions on improving your website. referral spam

What is the aim of referral spam?

In most cases, the spammers seek to promote some highly suspicious web pages, unpopular online stores, or software that might be infectious. Generally speaking, you should not let some suspicious spammers take advantage of your curiosity. Therefore, you should not click on suspicious referrer spam URLs that allegedly drive a great number of visitors to your site. Ignore URL, because a click on it results in a redirect to a website where you can install a Google Improver add-on, developed by Codobir, reportedly, a Russian guy named Vitaly Popov. The dubious browser add-on that was developed by him has already collected more than 40 negative reviews from users, all claiming that it is a spam add-on. Therefore, we do not recommend downloading it – it might expose your computer system to potential risks. Luckily, you can block referral spam by setting a filter in Google Analytics. Please navigate to page 2 to find a tutorial how to do it.

How to stop referral spam?

You should not fall for the fake number of visits that referral spam counterfeits in your Google Analytics page. The spammers do this to attract web traffic to particular websites that they want to promote. In case you have already installed the bogus Mozilla add-on called Google Improver, you should scan your computer with a reputable anti-malware program like Reimage Reimage Cleaner (Windows OS) or Webroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus (Mac and Windows OS). This browser extension might be harmful!
