Nav-goo.com virus usually gets into the system unknowingly with the help of free programs that you can download from various websites. If you do not pay attention to the installation, you might agree to change your browser's homepage or search engine with an unknown and shady website.

However, it's impossible to overlook the hijacker's appearance on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or another browser you use on a daily basis. As soon as it gets into the system and alters browser's settings, you might see these changes and annoying activities:

  • a homepage and default search engine is changed;
  • when you open a new window or new tab you immediately are redirected to hxxp://www.nav-goo.com/;
  • new bookmarks or favorites added to your browser;
  • you can see an increased amount of various advertisements;
  • you get redirects to unknown pages each time you click on a link;
  • your web browser starts to run slower and slower.

Many browser hijackers redirect search queries to Yahoo or Google results page. Though, they cannot control what links are delivered to the user. However, Nav-goo.com seems to use its own search algorithm and display any links. Here lies the biggest problem that developers might include only sponsored links in order to generate revenue by boosting traffic to various websites.

These Nav-goo.com redirect tendencies are annoying because you may not be able to find needed information. However, you might also end up on a phishing, tech support scam or even infected website too. Such potentially unwanted programs (PUPs)[3] are often used by cyber criminals in order to reach more targets. So, infiltration of the hijacker increases your possibility to encounter various cyber threats.

Additionally, this application might track information about you, such as most viewed websites, search keywords, clicked ads, links, etc. Aggregated details might be used for creating exciting advertisements. The more interesting ads appear on your screen, the more you click on them and give developers advertising-based revenue. Meanwhile, you might accidentally download unwanted software, toolbars or start browsing on high-risk websites.

Data tracking is definitely one of the most important reasons why you should remove Nav-goo.com from the browser. However, if you are still hesitating, you should know that aggregated details might be shared with third-parties and affiliates as well. Thus, you might see even more ads while browsing the web.

To protect your privacy and get back access to your browser, you need to get rid of the browser hijacker. We suggest opting for automatic Nav-goo.com removal is to use anti-malware software. You can run a free system scan with Reimage and then reset web browsers. However, if you prefer manual elimination option, you can find instructions at the end of the article.

Browser hijacker infects your computer during incorrect installation of software

Users tend to skip software installation steps because they want to do it quick. Although, this speeding through is not helpful. If you download software or updates from unknown sources, you always risk getting extra components, such as browser hijackers, adware or even malware. However, legitimate freeware can be used in PUP distribution too.

Unwanted apps usually spread with the help of software bundling – a legitimate marketing technique. However, it is tricky and takes advantage of user's willingness to install needed tool as soon as possible. PUP developers are aware of this situation and collaborate with freeware or shareware developers. Hence, they useless apps are often included in the same software package and get installed if a person uses Quick/Recommended setup which does not openly disclose about third-party components.

However, there is a way to avoid these infections and be secure. If you chose Advanced/ Custom settings during the installation, you could see all files that are ready to be installed on your system. At this point, you choose which ones to keep or with ones to de-select. We recommend to opt out all of them because they can barely be useful.
