Search2000s.com virus. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)

removal by Gabriel E. Hall - - | Type: Browser hijacker
12

Computer users often confuse search engines that are related to browser hijacker with safe and legitimate ones. However, using such untrustworthy search engines can lead to sad consequences, and that is why computer security experts aim to spread the knowledge about various browser hijackers, for instance, Search2000s.com. Today we are going to describe why Search2000s.com is an untrustworthy search engine and why you should not use it nor keep it as your homepage.

How can Search2000s.com hijack your PC without your knowledge?

If you have discovered that your browser’s homepage was replaced by Search2000s.com, that means your PC was hijacked by a potentially unwanted program (PUP), called Search2000s.com browser hijacker. Let us explain how it could have happened.

Browser hijackers and other potentially unwanted apps are mostly spread via bundling technique. Knowledge about this distribution technique can help you to avoid installing PUPs in the future. So this is how bundling contributes to spreading potentially unwanted software – it allows to attach it to other free programs and present them as optional downloads that are highly recommended. However, you will never see these proposals to install additional software unless you SEARCH for these statements during the installation setup. To find these statements and to deselect the agreements to install optional apps, you need to choose either Custom or Advanced installation option. If this application has already infected your computer, we suggest using anti-spyware software to get rid of it. You can try SpyHunter or any other reputable computer safety program.

Search2000s.com virus

How does Search2000s.com work and why is it considered to be dangerous?

Once this application sneaks into the system, it locates the targeted browser settings and changes them. This browser hijacker changes the homepage address to Search2000s.com and also installs tracking cookies to spy on you. We have investigated the license of this program, and we have found some suspicious statements about the doubtful safety of this search engine. Take a look at these statements:

“We have not reviewed, and cannot review, all of the material, including computer software, made available through the websites and WebPages to which Search2000s links, and that link to Search2000s. Search2000s does not have any control over those non- Search2000s websites and WebPages, and is not responsible for their contents or their use. […] You are responsible for taking precautions as necessary to protect yourself and your computer systems from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and other harmful or destructive content.”

As you can see, Search2000s admits that it may provide links to dangerous or even malicious websites. Let us explain WHY it does so – this program is closely affiliated with third-party companies, and it gains revenue for promoting their websites. Unfortunately, not all of the third-party companies have good intentions, and that means that some of these sites might try to convince you to install infectious content. So please, do not agree to install any suspicious programs that may be offered to while browsing sites accessed through the discussed search engine. What is more, you should know that some of the Search2000s.com search outcomes might seem completely normal, but they can cause Search2000s.com redirects to predetermined websites in order to gain pay-per-click revenue for the developers of this browser hijacker. Do you still want to use this search engine? We highly doubt so. If you want to remove it, please read the Search2000s.com removal instructions that are provided on the next page.
