Searchjourney.net virus. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)

removal by Ugnius Kiguolis - - | Type: Browser hijacker

How did Searchjourney.net virus hijack your computer?

Home.Searchjourney.net is a search engine that can take place of your homepage and new tab page after you install Search Journey, which is a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). You can do it by your choice, but you can also install it without even realizing it. Now, Searchjourney.net PUP can affect Chrome browser only, but there is a chance that the developers of it might create versions for other web browsers as well.

This browser hijacker can get inside your computer after you install some free programs from the Internet. If you didn’t know this yet, many free programs suggest installing additional programs alongside them. To avoid installing them, you should be careful and not miss these statements when installing any program on your computer:

  • Set Search Journey as my default search;
  • Set Search Journey as my homepage and new tab.

You can find these statements within Advanced or Custom installation settings. All you need to do is to uncheck the checkboxes next to them.

Questions about Searchjourney.net virus

Although the search engine Searchjourney.net browser hijacker presents looks safe, it is not a reliable one. It presents many sponsored search results, and that means you will have to turn a few pages until you find relevant search outcomes. Besides, some of Searchjourney.net search findings can lead you to random third-party websites, which have nothing in common with your search query. Take a look at these statements we took from the official website of SearchJourney:

The Extension may integrate third party content (“Third Party Content”) in order to enhance your new tab with the ability to change browser settings and bring search results to you. […]
Third Party Content also may include advertising, or advertising-supported search results, which will be displayed to you if you use the Extension’s search box or click on content from the search results.

Searchjourney.net redirects users to certain third-party sites in order to promote them and boost their web traffic; such redirects pose a threat to your computer system since you can never know where Nt.Searchjourney.net redirects are going to lead you. Please bear in mind that Searchjourney.net redirect virus can push you to visit high-risk and possibly malicious websites, so if you do not want to end up installing PUPs or more severe threats like Trojans or viruses, refrain yourself from browsing through untrustworthy Internet sites.

If you are looking for a search engine that delivers relevant search outcomes, Searchjourney.net search engine is definitely not a good option. What is more, the application related to it collects both personally identifiable and personally non-identifiable information about you in order to serve targeted ads and search results; if you want to keep such information for yourself, you should remove Searchjourney.net browser hijacker and use a trustworthy search engine like Google or Bing.
