SoftCop is a misleading security application that gives false reports of threats on your computer. The application is promoted through the use of Trojans but usually must be manually installed. Most of the time Soft Cop is pushed via fake online scanners that display fallacious information and fake security alerts to make you think your computer is baldy infected. Once installed, the rogue program will drop several harmless files that later will be presented as serious system security threats or infections. Then SoftCop will prompt you to pay for a full version of the program to remove supposed threats. Obviously, you shouldn’t purchase this application. Instead, uninstall SoftCop from your PC as soon as possible.
When running, Soft Cop will also display numerous fake security alerts and notifications about serious security problems and privacy issues. The fake security notification reads:
Your computer is infected with spyware. It could damage your critical files or expose your private data on the Internet. Click here to register your copy of SoftCop and remove spyware threats from your PC.”
It will also display fake Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) in your web browser claiming that a serious problem has been detected which is related with himem.sys file. The fake BSoD reads:
Detected security problems on your computer
Spyware is software, which can gather information from user’s computer through Internet connection and send them to its creater. Gather information can be passwords, e-mail adresses and all that data, which is important for you.”
It can block certain Windows OS programs, tools and services. For example, it may disable Task Manger, Registry Editor and System restore mostly to protect itself from being deleted. It will impersonate Windows Security Center too. The rogue program will claim that you should active SoftCop in order to protect your PC. However, as you may already know, the real Windows Security Center does not promote any anti-virus software.
