ThinkSmart. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)

removal by Ugnius Kiguolis - -   Also known as Think Smart | Type: Rogue Antispyware

ThinkSmart is a rogue anti-spyware program from the same family as ThinkPoint. This rogue program comes from fake online scanners, infected websites or bundled with other malware. Once installed, it will pretend to scan your computer for viruses. After the fake scan it will claim that your computer is infected with Unknown Win32/Trojan and Trojan.Horse.Win32.PAV.64.a. Then it will prompt you restart your computer in order to start the system in safe mode and remove found malware from the computer. After a restart, ThinkSmart screen will show up instead of Windows Explorer. It will hide all your Desktop icons and taskbar. Then ThinkSmart will pretend to scan your computer for malware again but this time it will state that you have to pay for a full version of the program to remove the infections. Please, don’t purchase it. ThinkSmart is nothing more but a scam. If you find that your computer is infected with this rogue program then please follow the ThinkSmart removal instructions below.

While Think Smart is running, it will block legitimate programs on your computer, including task manager and other Windows utilities. Here’s a quick fix. Once you see the ThinkSmart screen go ahead and press CTRL + ALT + DEL. Select the Processes tab. Highlight hotfix.exe and click End Process button. Now click File -> New Task. Type in explorer and press Enter. It will back the Start button and task bar. Finally, go ahead and delete ThinkSmart files and registry keys manually or download an automatic removal tool given below and run a full system scan. Last, but not least, if you have already purchased this rogue program then you should contact your credit card company and dispute the charges.
