WebChefPlus. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)

removal by Ugnius Kiguolis - - | Type: Adware

WebChefPlus – ad-supported extension that belongs to the PUP category. Why is it important to stay away from it?

WebChefPlus is an extension for IE, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Chrome. It is introduced as a personal cookbook that everyone can use for free. However, it has some traits that are typical to ‘adware’ and PUP (potentially unwanted program), which is why security experts recommend staying away from it. It has been developed in 2011. However, up till know, it hasn’t been reported for suspicious activities. However, a couple of month ago people have started reporting this app for displaying intrusive advertisements.

After that, our security experts have started testing it and found out some negative traits that it features. First of all, it displays sponsored advertisements, what means that third parties are supporting it. However, not for nothing. To attract sponsors, WebChefPlus adware promises to display predetermined advertisements that can be filled with all kind of content. Thus, keeping in mind that no one monitors the content, there is always a risk that this “cookbook” can expose you to unreliable content. By the way, it can use cookies and collect information about your browsing activities. Thus, if you suspect that your Windows or Mac OS has already been hijacked by WebChefPlus virus, we would recommend checking the system with an anti-spyware, for example, Reimage.

How can I get infected with this adware?

There are two methods that are applied for spreading WebChefPlus virus. Both of them are legitimate and can freely be used. It means that it’s up to you whether this ad-supported extension will settle down on your web browser or not. So how WebChefPlus infects on computers?

1. WebChefPlus Ads can show up on the websites that you are visiting if you download the add-on from its official website. This method is known as direct installation. For that, you have to visit WebChefPlus(dot)com domain, press ‘Download’ button and wait until the installation is finished. Then you will be asked to execute the installation by clicking the ‘Next’ button for several times and that’s it.

2. Indirect installation or ‘bundling.’ This method is tricky because it makes people install potentially unwanted programs, namely browser add-ons, toolbars, extensions, plug-ins, into computers without even realizing that. The principle of this distribution is rather simple. Unwanted programs are attached to other freewares/sharewares as ‘optional components.’ The tricky moment here is that additional components are usually disguised under express or quick installation option. It means that the only way to opt out of them is to select a more complicated installation method (e.g. advanced/custom). Unfortunately, but people seldom do that.

Thus, if you have noticed that “Ads by WebChefPlus” has started flooding your web browser out of nowhere, it means that you’ve installed a freeware and accepted to install its attachments alongside. This could be prevented if you would have a reputable anti-spyware installed.

WebChefPlus removal methods. How can I fix my computer completely?

WebChefPlus is promoted as a handy tool for those who love cookies. However, it is set to initiate various unwanted activities due to which your browsing may become unbearable. For example, it can flood your web browser with commercial pop-ups, slowdowns, and so on. Besides, WebChefPlus redirect can expose you to unknown websites that can even appear to be unsafe. Therefore, make sure that it’s fully removed from your computer and take precautionary measures to prevent WebChefPlus installation in the future.

This adware is not malicious, so it can be removed from the system without using additional software. However, do not underestimate the fact that it spreads bundled with freewares that can carry more than one additional component. Thus, to remove WebChefPlus virus and get rid of all other unwanted components, you should use an automated tool.
