What should you know about Webstart-page.com virus?

While looking for a new search engine, be careful not to encounter Webstart-page.com virus. Though technically it does not possess malignant elements, we do not recommend keeping it on the device. As a matter of fact, it operates as a browser hijacker [1]. Elaborating on this type of potentially unwanted program, you should be aware of its tendency to collect non—personal and technical data about your operating system. Usually, netizens are not concerned about the sharing of such details only because they do not know for that purposes or what effects such phenomenon might cause. While you are reading this article, start Webstart-page.com removal right away.

Users less aware of the peculiarities and differences of search engines might frequently run into a browser hijacker. Usually, it does not differ from Bing or Google browsing engines. The main difference lies in alternative homepage design. What is more, some of them might earn users‘ benevolence as they employ Google as the search database. However, keep in mind that a browser hijacker employs its certain layer to provide you specific search results. Likewise, Webstart-page.com is no expectation. If you take a look at the privacy policy of this browsing tool, you may find out that it might not only deliver the search results of Bing and Google, but such questionable web pages as Trovi, Seek for Search, MySecureSearch, and Yandex. The latter, unfortunately, happen to be browser hijackers as well.

The privacy policy also mentions that while using Web Start Page as your main search engine, third party websites collect specific technical information about your browsing via their own cookies, beacons, and web pixels. In short, the type of your operating system, browsing history, session duration and similar peculiarities comprise the collectible non-personal information. According to the provisions, such data will only be used for the statistical purposes. Taking into account that the hijacker facilitates the services of another browser hijacker which lead a different privacy policy, such sharing of technical data may be the omen of a continuous flood of ads on your screen. What is more, it is likely that your email Inbox might be crammed with commercial offers as well. Such employment of shady tools may help for more serious spyware to infiltrate into the device. Such type of excessive advertising is especially a problem for Android mobile users [2].

What is more, you should be careful with Webstart-page.com redirect. This tendency causes a great irritation since you might be misguided to a domain different from your preferred destination. Usually, browser hijacker misguides to gaming, shopping or gambling domains. Note that they might bear such malignant elements as exploit kits or trojans [3]. This browser hijacker may also install additional questionable plug-ins [4].

When does the hijacker invade my operating system?

If you are wondering how this PUP infiltrated your browser, you just need to recall whether you recently installed a new application. Hijackers prefer attaching themselves to free media players, file converter and image editors. Since few members of the virtual community give a second look to the installation guide, they often fail to notice optional add-ons. As a result, hitting the “Install” button accelerates Webstart-page.com hijack. If you are willing to lower the risk of this type infection, install new applications differently. After launching the wizard, opt for “Custom” settings. Later on, remove the checkmarks from the unnecessary additional tools. Now remove Webstart-page.com from the device. For that purpose, use Reimage. In addition, you should eliminate all additional browser extensions as they may facilitate bigger browsing problems [5].
