Windows Activation Pro virus. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)

removal by Olivia Morelli - - | Type: Adware

How should you deal with Windows Activation Pro virus?

If you started seeing alerts which urge you to reactivate Windows operating system by calling a specific number, know that it is a tech support scam known as Windows Activation Pro virus. The goal of such deception is to coax out money from users by convincing them to buy suspicious software or call a high-charged number. Another example of such deceptive applications is Windows Activation virus. Luckily, the current scam is deemed as adware, so it is not difficult to remove Windows Activation Pro virus. We highly recommend installing a malware removal tool to put an end to this unwanted program.

Internet users, who browse the Web every day, might already have an immunity to various pop-ups and other adware-type programs. Thus, they are not an easy target for scammers. However, they are still creating persuasive techniques to manipulate users into downloading one or another application. Sometimes they come up with such creative threats as Windows Activation Pro adware. When this potentially unwanted application sneaks into the computer, it starts displaying notifications about outdated system. The main difference from the real message generated by Microsoft is that there is no provided telephone number. There are only these options: “re-activate” and “re-enter product key”. Contrary to this, the scam provides ability to reactivate the system by calling 1-888-479-3649. However, do not make any reckless actions and avoid dialing it since you may be charged with an enormously high rate. Thus, the next bill received from the telecommunication company might be truly astounding.

Questions about Windows Activation Pro virus

Additionally, the adware does not only generate Windows Activation Pro ads but may display fake alerts of ProductKeyUpdate as well. The scam acts the same way by providing a telephone number for deceiving users, who think that by calling the number, they will solve the activation issues. Getting back to the former adware, you might encounter Windows Activation Pro redirect as well. After connecting to the supposed tech support specialist, he or she may give you the details how to proceed with the reactivation or purchase a software which will eliminate the current problems. Therefore, they might suggest you to visit certain website which redirects to a suspicious and questionable web page. Keep in mind that it might be infected. Furthermore, this adware possibly collects both, personal and non-personal information. Then, it might be transferred to anonymous third-parties which use the data for creating similar scams and advertisements to Windows Activation Pro ads.

The distribution of the adware

Though this PUP may differ from other samples of the same group, it uses the same channels to infect users. In other words, when you download a free program, you usually ignore the fact that “bonus” programs might come along. Unfortunately, they successfully infiltrate the system due to users’ ignorance to the installation guides. Selecting “Basic” settings is also a common mistake. In order to avoid Windows Activation Pro hijack again, you need to change your usual course of actions. After downloading a new program, choose “Custom” settings. Only when you are sure that no add-ons are marked, finish the installation process. Finally, let us move on to Windows Activation Pro removal.
