Security iGuard review
Security iGuard is a simple, but yet quite effective spyware remover. During our tests this program managed to find and eliminate most parasites, which were installed to one of our test machines. Nevertheless, we CANNOT recommend purchasing and using this product because of several negative facts about it.
Security iGuard was distributed with the help of trojans, hijackers and similar parasites for a long time. A few months ago, numerous variants of the Smitfraud trojan were hitting thousands of users. These threats were silently downloading from the Internet and installing Security iGuard. Some malicious web sites were dropping the same product into their visitors computers. Although the program’s makers deny all charges and blame their affiliates for this, we aren’t so certain that this is the real truth. Vendors might be responsible for stealth installation of their product.
The program itself is also not perfect. It is prone to false positives. On our several test computers it managed to detect two instances of the PoeBot.Explorer parasite. Further analysis revealed that detected autoexec.bat files are legitimate and harmless. One of them is a standard Windows component created during the operating system installation, and the other one is its copy, backed up by WinPatrol, legitimate security-related tool. See a screenshot provided below.
The application’s demonstration version refuses to remove any parasites it finds. It asks to register and purchase the full product.
