The Spy Guard does not produce false positives, provides updates and really finds some spyware-related objects. Nevertheless, we DO NOT recommend purchasing and using this product.
The program uses ineffective malware detection engine. Although it actually checks some running processes, active services and registry entries, it bypasses all the files, folders and other parasite-specific malicious objects, which exact locations and names are not specified in certain registry keys. In other words, The Spy Guard can detect only some known parasite components, but not their variants or the most recent threats. A system scan performed on a regular modern computer with hundreds of gigabytes of data did not take more than 15 seconds. As you know, there are no such spyware remover capable to thoroughly check the system so quickly. This shows that results of The Spy Guard’s scans cannot be trusted.
The application’s free version refuses to remove any parasites it finds. It asks to register and purchase the full product. Furthermore, several integrated tools designed to restore Internet Explorer settings, recover the desktop wallpaper and display settings are disabled in a free version. See a screenshot below.
The program is a clone of Adware Punisher and SystemStable. It has a resembling interface and consists from terribly similar components.
The Spy Guard is promoted through aggressive and deceptive advertisements as well as rogue web sites imitating the look of legitimate security-related resources. Persons running such sites and distributing such advertisements are also responsible for the stealth installation of numerous widely spread pests. Although we aren’t sure who they actually are, we surmise that The Spy Guard’s vendor or its affiliates are trying to promote and sell the product that way.
The official web site is www.thespyguard.com.
