February and March rogue overview

If compared with January, February and March were much easier for PC users because of the clear drop in Multi-name rogues. Well known for Win 7 Internet Security 2012, this family of viruses is exceptional for the ability to change its parasites’ names according to the OS it finds on the target PC. Our researchers claim that these scams have been massively spreading on January through fake updates and free system scanners but now they seem to be gone for good.

However, users should never think that they are safe from viruses – in February scammers have surprisingly renewed?¬†Security Shield rogue anti-spyware and in March – Smart HDD fake system optimizer. These viruses are known to be released in the end of 2010 as the replacements for Security Tool and Smart Defragmenter malwares. Similarly to their earlier versions, the latest versions of Security Shield and Smart HDD have been found to be completely annoying and really hard to remove. However, entering the executable file of the anti-spyware program straight to the address bar helps for victims to download anti-spyware to their computers and launch it. Note that new Smart HDD version has some new features – now it pretends to use a S.M.A.R.T. Check function to ‘examine’ the hard drive for S.M.A.R.T. Errors and additionally presents a S.M.A.R.T. Repair screen with a fake hard drive diagnostic report. Please, ignore such alert and remove your virus using the tip mentioned above.

We must also inform you about Smart Fortress 2012 that has been infecting PC users from the late February. From the beginning, this malware has always been a real challenge just like Google redirect virus that makes user’s web-surfing ability restricted and cuts him from many Internet browsing services.?¬†Instead of giving expected search results, this redirect hijacker brings its victims to various domains that have nothing to do with the expected results.

To sum up, rogues seem to be on their increase at the moment and the only way to prevent their intrussion is using reputable anti-spyware programs. You should always pay attention to their updates if you want to have all the latest virus fixes on your computer.
