NewTab ads Removal Guide
What is Ads by NewTab?
New Tab ads still linger in the cyber space
New Tab ads offer you to install dubious customized browser extensions. The adware which acquires new shape has been wandering the virtual space already since 2013. Even now you can still notice here and there.[1]
This potentially unwanted program is mostly used for affiliate marketing.[2] Hence, the program may deliver an excessive amount of ads that inform about various commercial offers, deals, discounts, coupons and similar things related to online shopping. Once you click on the interested ad, you generate its developers' revenue. However, some of those clicks might cause damage for you.
Some of the NewTab ads might redirect to the questionable third-party websites, which may not only be filled with various commercials but may also try to spread suspicious programs, such as adware or browser hijackers. What is more, you should be aware of the fact that malvertising[3] is one of the popular ransomware distribution methods. Hence, having the adware program inside the computer increases the risk to encounter a malware-laden advertisement.[4]
We highly recommend scanning your computer with FortectIntego or other reputable anti-malware/anti-spyware program as soon as you notice these ads. The security software will remove NewTab virus and other PUPs from Firefox, Chrome and other browsers.
Ads by NewTab are initiated by the adware program which sneaked inside the computer with a help of freeware or shareware.
Ads by NewTab may appear in very intrusive forms, such as pop-up, pop-under, banner, in-text, full-page ads and seriously disrupt your web browsing activities. Even more, it may slow down your computer and even increase security vulnerabilities. As we already mentioned, worrying NewTab redirect tendencies may increase the chances to browse through unsafe websites that might be infected or involve you in some online scam.
One of the main reasons how adware program tries to get your clicks is providing interest-based ads. The adware monitors your online activities by using tracking cookies[5]. It may collect such information as search queries, websites visited, data entered, clicks, impressions, IP address, email address, PCs location and so on. However, you should beware that aggregated information is further used for affiliate marketing.
What is more, this information might be shared or sold to other third parties and may be used for, for example, flooding your email with spam. Therefore, you should initiate NewTab removal at once.
PUP promotion techniques
The so-called NewTab virus often travels along with various freeware and shareware, and get inside your machine bundled with them. Bear in mind that downloading and installing free programs from the Internet might be quite dangerous. For this reason, you should choose reliable and secure sources for downloads, and carefully monitor the installation process.
The hijack might occur when you install new programs under “Basic” or “Recommended” settings because they do not disclose about additional downloads. Whenever you are installing freeware, make sure that you select Advanced or Custom installation option and check if your selected freeware contains additional components.
If you spot a notification suggesting to install programs, such as browser add-on, plug-in, toolbar or extension, unmark them and only then click the “Next” button. In case you have already installed New Tab virus, follow the instructions below and get rid of it without any hesitation.

How to prevent from getting adware
Access your website securely from any location
When you work on the domain, site, blog, or different project that requires constant management, content creation, or coding, you may need to connect to the server and content management service more often. The best solution for creating a tighter network could be a dedicated/fixed IP address.
If you make your IP address static and set to your device, you can connect to the CMS from any location and do not create any additional issues for the server or network manager that needs to monitor connections and activities. VPN software providers like Private Internet Access can help you with such settings and offer the option to control the online reputation and manage projects easily from any part of the world.
Recover files after data-affecting malware attacks
While much of the data can be accidentally deleted due to various reasons, malware is one of the main culprits that can cause loss of pictures, documents, videos, and other important files. More serious malware infections lead to significant data loss when your documents, system files, and images get encrypted. In particular, ransomware is is a type of malware that focuses on such functions, so your files become useless without an ability to access them.
Even though there is little to no possibility to recover after file-locking threats, some applications have features for data recovery in the system. In some cases, Data Recovery Pro can also help to recover at least some portion of your data after data-locking virus infection or general cyber infection.
