Remove XTEX ads (Virus Removal Guide)

removal by Jake Doevan - - | Type: Adware

XTEX is a potentially dangerous application. Although it belongs to the lowest danger level of cyber threats, it’s presence neither on Windows nor Mac OS should be ignored. There are more than enough downsides that this program features and we will list each of them step by step:

  • Infiltrates computers without asking for a proper permission;
  • Hijacks web browsers;
  • Displays sponsored advertisements;
  • Redirects people to irrelevant web pages;
  • Causes web browsers’ slowdowns;
  • Uses cookies and causes information leakage;
  • May be involved in the distribution of malware.

Why XTEX virus pretends to be a useful application?

The answer is simple. If XTEX would present itself as adware and potentially unwanted program (PUP) as it is, who would install it? Probably no one. Thus, to make people believe that they need this tool, it presents itself as a useful cross-browser plug-in that is going to improve web browsing experience. Unfortunately, but it’s the main task is to generate financial revenue by displaying sponsored advertisements. Each click on the ads generates developers and their affiliates pay-per-click (PPC) revenue and help increase traffic to predetermined pages. Unfortunately, but XTEX redirects can cause some serious harm, including malware infiltration. Therefore, if you believe that your computer is infected with XTEX virus, don’t hesitate and remove it using a professional anti-malware tool. Our recommendation would be Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego.

What tasks does this tool perform and how to recognize it?

Questions about XTEX ads

XTEX is deemed as PUP and adware. In most of the cases, it spreads bundled with free programs like torrent files or various download managers. If you want to find more about its distribution method, read the next paragraph. If XTEX plug-in is executed, the adware settles down on each web browser, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer. After that, it enables tracking cookies and starts monitoring IP address, PC’s location, email address, search queries, pages viewed and similar information. Some of the details may be quite personal, so disclosing them to questionable third parties is not recommended.

Also, XTEX adware can exhibit potentially dangerous advertisements. The minority of the advertisements are presented by the developers of this program. The majority of them belong to third-party sponsors who pay a certain amount of money for the adware developers to get the chance to promote their pages, goods, services, and software. Unfortunately, but trusting eye-catching “Ads by XTEX,” “ XTEX Ads,” and similarly labeled pop-up ads, in-text links, interstitial, etc. is a mistake. At best, you can be rerouted to an unknown shopping website. But in the worst case scenario, you may be redirected to misleading official pages and tricked into downloading another PUP. Thus, do not take the risk of keeping this adware on your PC.

How can I get infected with XTEX PUP?

XTEX spreads by bundling. Thus, to protect your computer from potentially unwanted programs it’s vital to track installation process of each freeware. Don’t forget that most reliable download pages, including Cnet, Softonic, Soft, and many others may also be involved in the distribution of software packages. Thus, take your time installing free software and always check the expanded installation mode (Advanced or Custom). It will allow you to see all ‘optional downloads’ and will let you deselect the ones that you don’t want to install. If you have already installed XTEX malware, you can find a detailed “XTEX removal guide” in the Page2.

How can I remove this unwanted program from Windows OS?

Even though it’s possible to remove XTEX virus manually (the guide is given down below), we do not recommend that. Adware type programs are often led by other PUPs or have some hidden components. Therefore, by removing this adware by yourself, you risk either leaving other unwanted programs hiding in the system or removing the wrong files. Therefore, we would recommend performing XTEX removal using an automated tool.

You may remove virus damage with a help of Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego. SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner and Malwarebytes are recommended to detect potentially unwanted programs and viruses with all their files and registry entries that are related to them.

You can choose a different location when you go online and access any material you want without particular content restrictions. You can easily enjoy internet connection without any risks of being hacked by using Private Internet Access VPN.

Control the information that can be accessed by government any other unwanted party and surf online without being spied on. Even if you are not involved in illegal activities or trust your selection of services, platforms, be suspicious for your own security and take precautionary measures by using the VPN service.

Backup files for the later use, in case of the malware attack

Computer users can suffer from data losses due to cyber infections or their own faulty doings. Ransomware can encrypt and hold files hostage, while unforeseen power cuts might cause a loss of important documents. If you have proper up-to-date backups, you can easily recover after such an incident and get back to work. It is also equally important to update backups on a regular basis so that the newest information remains intact – you can set this process to be performed automatically.

When you have the previous version of every important document or project you can avoid frustration and breakdowns. It comes in handy when malware strikes out of nowhere. Use Data Recovery Pro for the data restoration process.
