Interpol virus – a threat that demands money for alleged illegal behavior by scaring people with law enforcement agency names

Interpol virus is the threat from the CashU viruses category that can easily lock your computer down for invented law violations and then ask you to pay the fine through Ukash or Paysafecard prepayment systems. In order to get your computer fixed, you will need to remove Interpol virus from the system. True, removal of this ransomware is especially complicated because this virus is capable of locking down and blocking legitimate software, security functions, recovery features, or Internet connection.

i was actually on facebook i clicked a link and bam i had this virus in the computer i done a full system restore on my system but still now unsure if the virus is lying somewhere in the PC dormant and is going to pop up at any second cause doing a system restore is only option if its really bad at the time it was i was locked out of my PC so my question is will it still be in the pc somware

These really arent viruses .... they are just plights to try and get money from you ... and even if you pay ... they dont get removed ... Whenever you get stuff like this ... the best thing to do is to google it ... The above procedure seems straightforward ... but, Im inclined to believe, its not that simple ... maybe it is... The last time I ran into this with another client, we had to create a self-bootable USB drive that had a cleaner on it ... and it took/wiped it right off the system.... So ... they CAN be removed .... Just dont get frustrated too much so you can stay focused .... Malwarebytes.org is a great piece of software to use ... but, the bottom line is ... NONE of them are 100% sure-fires against infection ... Otherwise, that "one" solution would be out there, and all these other "solutions" would go by the way-side .... Just my two cents worth ... Tim

I find that Malwarebytes anti-malware is good for this sort of thing. I have no link to them, its just experience. It just seems to pick up things that the virus-checkers dont. No idea why, though. My AVG antivirus has blocked trojans in the past and even warns me when software is untrustworthy, but it let this interpol virus through, and I shall be having words......

Im a computer novice and have just had this pop up and lock my screen. I have just been on a few forums and attempted the restart in safe mode with command prompt; however, there is no screen for me to enter the command? I dont understand how to remove this virus and get my computer back. If someone please has a simple way that a muppet like me can do I would really appreciate it?

Hi Im trying to follow the instuctions above but for some reason it will not go into safemode i select the option to go into safemode but it doesnt go into safemode it just restarts again as normal any advice

I just got this virus last night. After trying a few things including the steps above, nothing worked. I restarted my computer, then pressed "esc" at startup to get into the "start up menus" then selected option "F11 System Recovery" then "recovery manager" popped up and I selected "Microsoft system restore" then followed the prompts and restored to the most recent backup (that was done by itself during windows update) and vial lava it worked.
The weird thing is, I had Microsoft Security Essentials before, but when I got the virus I noticed it wasnt there anymore. I re-downloaded it and my computer is running great.
I normally dont post on forums but it has helped me lots of times, so Im sharing my experience with this virus. Hope it helps.

The you need to Run Msconfig and change the start-up setting to the safe mode and restart - then till you change it back it will be y default setting

I always use Hirens Boot CD, it has a mini windows Xp and you can run antivirus from there, this cd has already saved my computer 4 times, 3 from viruses and once when I forgot my password, GET THIS CD

Thanks Shafee this worked for us. My 12 year old was in hysterics about his computer. Poor kid thought someone was coming to get him. People can be such A-holes.

OKay, for you guys tha cant get safemode up.
Here is a protip I use for this garbage.
Use CTRL+ALT+DEL, then start your task manager that way
Then use CTRL+ALT+DEL, and choose restart your comp,
If Task manager is on, it will ask very quickly, force restart or cancel, choose cancel
That will shut down all non essential programs, including the Interpol Virus.
Now your comp should be free, so you can sort it from there.

I recently had similar issues with removing the Interpol virus and found the following work around.
A few details about my system first
Windows XP Professional SP3
Dell Optiplex 170L (PC) (old I know : )
I had also tried various removal tools including anvisoft without successful removal of the Interpol virus.
1. Restart your computer.
2. When the computer reboots and the desktop appears (icons, start menu etc), [b]press the power button on the PC[/b].
This initiates a system shutdown and on my PC killed the lock screen.
3. Other dialog boxes then appear asking you to end more processes.
4. Prevent the system from shutting down by clicking the close dialog button (x) on any one of those end process dialog boxes that appear.
I was then able to access my system as normal, download and install malware software which this time found and repaired the infected files. ( previous scans using boot CDs had either failed to find anything or had found only a small number, around 11, infected files).

after spending modt of the day here, I used my linux boot cd and just deleted the files and fixed the problem None of these anti virus progs worked for me. simple hey.I dont use windows for this exact reason
