What is Brown Bark?
Brown Bark belongs to the group of programs that were designed for marketing purposes. There is a long list of similar programs, including SnipSmart, WalletBee, Buy4Less, Astro Arcade and many others. All these programs are designed by third parties in order to generate revenue by promoting specific websites. Unfortunately, but sometimes it is done using unfair methods.. First thing that you have to remember is that distributors of Brown Bark and similar adwares employ deceptive distribution methods to spread them as widely as possible. For this reason, they are bundled with free software and are installed into computer without being noticed. Once inside, they may modify browser’s settings and install codes of predetermined advertisements. This helps for Brown Bark show people various commercial advertisements that are supposedly designed for helping them save time and money. In most of the cases, these ads appear as pop-ups, pop-unders, banners, in-text links and other forms of ads that sometimes annoy people to death. As we have already mentioned, these advertisements are designed with marketing purposes; therefore, they contain links to sponsored websites and clicking on them may redirect to various online shops and other websites offering questionable services. Unfortunately, this is not the worst part. Brown Bark does not check or monitor advertisements that it displays, so there is a chance that various cyber criminals will add their own misleading advertisements as well. If yo want to avoid redirects to suspicious websites, you should stay away from ‘Ads by Brown Bark’ and similar notifications. In addition, using this application, its developers collect information about people’s browsing habits, such as mostly visited websites, time that is spend on them, data that is entered, etc.. However, there is no guarantee that your sensitive data won’t reach bad people. Having this in mind, we recommend you to remove Brown Bark plug-in from the system.
How can Brown Bark hijack my computer?
As we have already mentioned in the previous section, Brown Bark is usually spread using unfair methods. As the most of adwares, browser hijackers and potentially unwanted programs, it spreads around via various freewares and sharewares. Distributors of free software gain profit by allowing third parties to add their advertisements alongside their programs; therefore, beware that most of the applications that can be downloaded from the Internet for free contain additional components. Such distribution is tricky and many people fall into it because additional components are cleverly hidden and people do not spot their presence. Since if ‘bundling’ is legal, it can be used without limits. The most important thing that must be done in order to avoid installation of bundled programs is to pay close attention to the installation process. In most of the cases, Brown Bark virus and similar applications are hidden under Recommended installation option. If you choose it, additional programs are automatically installed and you may start noticing various advertisements and experience redirects every time you will try to browse. To avoid this situation, read end-user license agreement and privacy policy sections as they should notify if third parties sponsor the program. Moreover, always choose Advanced installation mode and follow the entire process. You may spot suggestions to install extensions, plug-ins, add-ons and similar unfamiliar tools. It is not recommended to accept them as you may allow installation of Brown Bark accidentally. In case you have already installed it on your PC, follow the instruction below that will help you to get rid of this intruder.
