Jake Doevan · Computer technology expert

If your web browser has started generating ‘Ads by PopToTop’ or ‘brought by Pop-To-Top,’ it means that an adware has ended up on it. In order to prevent slowdowns, irritating advertisements, redirects, data leakage and other inconveniences that this adware may cause, you should take needed actions and remove it without a delay.

Why should I remove PopToTop adware?

Pop-To-Top belongs to both ‘adware’ and ‘potentially unwanted program’ (PUP) categories. Once installed, it starts generating various commercial advertisements. Although it tries to convince people that those ads are useful for those who want to save time and money when shopping online, that’s not true. PopToTop ads are sponsored by third parties, which, unfortunately, are not monitored in any way. Consequently, you should not reject the possibility that the ads you are presented with may be prepared by various scammers and hackers that seek to spread other cyber threats. If you have already clicked on one of the advertisement, you are strongly advised to check the system with FortectIntego because another PUP might have ended up on your computer.

By the way, draw your attention to the fact that those ads accurately correspond to your interests. That’s because Pop-To-Top adware uses cookies and accumulates information related to your browsing habits. Unfortunately, but third parties may also receive your email address, PC’s location, IP address, and similar information that may further be used for unfair purposes, such as email spamming. Thus, if you web browser is flooded by misleading ads and Pop-To-Top redirects to you unknown domains frequently, do not wait any longer and get rid of the adware.

How can this adware hijack my computer?

PopToTop is able to infect computers in two ways. People can download it from the official website or agree to install it alongside other freewares. The problem is that freeware bundles cannot be distinguished from the outside. Therefore, you may not suspect that the program that you are going to install in reality comes with various additional attachments. Therefore, in order to check if you have selected a standalone application, you have to select “advanced” or “custom” installation option and carefully monitor the entire process. In case you find a check box saying that you agree to install PopToTop add-on or another unfamiliar application, untick it and only then click the ‘Next’ or ‘Finish’ button.

How to remove/uninstall PopToTop virus from my computer?

PopToTop or Pop-To-Top is a program that is commonly confused with a virus. Fortunately, it’s not malicious and can’t affect your PC’s system. Nevertheless, the content that it delivers is doubtful and in some of the cases may cause infiltration of other potentially unwanted programs. In order to avoid all the risk, remove this useless browser extension without a delay. To do that, you can rely on one of the anti-spyware tools that can be found below. If usage of the additional software is not your preference, you can try to remove it manually with the help of a guide that has been submitted by our security experts.
