How to remove ZoomEx ads

A step-by-step removal guide for affected devices. Follow the verified procedure below — most readers complete it in under 10 minutes.

Jake Doevan · Computer technology expert

You can install ZoomEx as a useful browser add-on for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer. However, if you still don’t have this application on your computer, you should stay away from it. If you don’t want to see continuous pop-up ads, in-text links, and banners, you should stay away from this browser extension. While we can’t claim that this program cannot be used for zooming pictures, it can also trick you into visiting suspicious websites that are seeking only to increase their popularity. According to security experts, Zoom Ex application belongs to the ‘adware’ and ‘potentially unwanted program’ categories.

What users have to know before installing ZoomEx on their computers:

Speaking about the ‘adware’, the main criteria that categorize such programs is advertisements. Therefore, keeping in mind that ZoomEx virus is an adware, you should expect to see lots of annoying third-party advertisements, which may be filled with questionable content. After clicking such ads, this browser plugin redirects its victims to predetermined sites. This fact is the tricky one because no one knows what website you may be exposed to. You can easily be redirected by ZoomEx to unsafe and very suspicious websites.

Besides, to provide you with the most interesting commercial material, developers of this app tend to install tracking cookies on the system. Typically, they accumulate information like, for instance, pages that users view, content that they access, ads that they click, search queries, PC’s IP address, e-mail address, and similar marketing-related material. If you are not keen on being tracked by third parties and chased by ‘customized’ advertisements, you should think about removing Zoom Ex from your computer. The best decision would be to download FortectIntego or other reliable anti-spyware and remove this adware automatically.

Methods that are used for spreading ZoomEx:

Two different methods that have been used for the distribution of ZoomEx:

  • Official website and third party sites. ZoomEx add-on can be downloaded from the official website. Here, it is presented as a browser extension developed for enlarging photos on Facebook. It can show you an enlarged picture by hovering it over it.
  • Bundling. Just like its clones, including Zoom Zoom, ZoomIt, ZoomApp, this program is capable of infiltrating computers as an optional component. In fact, there are lots of adware-type programs, browser hijackers and other PUPs that have been using this method for entering computers unnoticed. Typically, they are added to freeware as optional components that should be prevented by monitoring its installation. Please, be careful when downloading download managers, PDF creators, video streaming software, video recording software and similar apps. Saying so we mean that you should select Custom or Advanced installation method and then go thru all the installation steps. You should uncheck all pre-checked check marks that allow installation of ‘optional downloads’.

Eliminating potentially unwanted programs from the system:

If you have tested Zoom Ex on your computer and now you see that it’s not as useful as it claims, you can remove this add-on from your computer. This can be done with the help of two different methods – automatic removal method and manual removal method:

  • Manual removal method. This removal method is recommended for experienced computer users because it’s not enough to remove this app via Add/Remove Programs as a standalone application. It tends to spread in one pack with various supporting components that should also be uninstalled. Please, be careful when using manual removal and follow every step only in the right order because you may remove useful components from your computer.
  • Automatic removal method. This removal option is considered the easiest way to remove ZoomEx virus and related components. However, you should make sure that you use the latest version of anti-spyware. For that, you should update it to its latest version right after downloading it to your computer.
