Ads by Tmtk Control adware

What issues can this PUP cause?

Tmtk Control is introduced as a legitimate software that should provide users with various entertaining videos and pictures from tenminutestokill.com site. However, instead of producing the real value for its users, this tool is trying to boost traffic to affiliate websites and earn easy money using pay-per-click method. Upon successful injection, Tmtk Control hijacks Chrome, Firefox, IE or another web browser that is installed on a target system. Also, it activates tracking cookies and web beacons in each of them and starts collecting information like search terms, pages viewed, information typed/uploaded/downloaded from those websites, PC’s IP address, approximate geolocation, and so on. Such information is crucial for affiliate marketers for the preparation of ads or, in some of the cases, spam.

By the way, Tmtk Control adware may display a vast number of advertisements. As the research has shown, it tends to show pop-up and banner advertisements, but in some of the cases, you may receive some of the in-text links and full-page ads. The majority of them are marked with particular slogans, for example, “Tmtk Control Ads,” “Ads by Tmtk Control,” “Brought by Tmtk Control,” and so on. These ads are annoying, but the bigger problem is related to the destination websites of those ads. As they are brought by third parties, the sites may be of two types – safe (third-party online shops and similar) and fishy (full of offers to install other PUPs, fake software updates, etc.). Therefore, if you want to avoid risk-posing Tmtk Control redirects to compromised domains, do not click on any ads delivered by this adware.

Tmtk Control hijacks web browsers without being recognized. How to prevent that and how to remove it?

Tmtk Control is promoted using the help of other freewares and sharewares. In other words, it may be attached to various media streaming software, download managers, PDF creators, and so on. The noteworthy fact that such free programs are distributed via both questionable and trustworthy third-party websites. Therefore, no matter that download source for a program you select, don’t just click the ‘Next’ and ‘Finish’ buttons. Select “advanced” or “custom” installation option and check what responsibilities do you have to take by installing the app and what additional components are offered to you. If you find some of them, deselect each of them by unticking the check marks.
