What is Aviso ransomware and how does it work?

Aviso virus is a destructive ransomware virus that is written in AutoIt programming language. Some security researchers call it as Brazilian Crypt888 virus (or Mircop virus). It seems that this virus targets Spanish-speaking computer users, because the ransomware is distributed via email and arrives in a form of a .ZIP document that is called ENDESA_FACTURA.ZIP. In other words, this virus arrives in a zipped archive that seems to be sent by Endesa S.A., which is the largest electric utility company in Spain. Once extracted and launched, Aviso malware passes a fake digital certificate issued to Endesa S.A. and this way bypasses Windows protection.

Then the virus starts scanning all computer folders and encrypting victim’s files one after another. After corrupting a file, Aviso ransomware adds Lock. prefix to it. Unlike other ransomware viruses, it does not add any file extension to encrypted files. We assume that it uses a prefix and not an extension so that the user could notice modified files sooner. The virus wants the victim to pay a ransom of 2000 Brazillian reais, which is more than 620 US dollars. The ransom note also informs the victim that the hard drive is going to be formatted in case the victim decides not to pay the ransom.
