What is license.rtf?

Jake Doevan Computer technology expert Published

license.rtf is a malicious file related to a dangerous parasite, which uses it to harm your system, installed software and other files or violate your privacy by spying on you and stealing your sensitive information. The exact purpose of the license.rtf file depends on the parasite’s type and implemented functions. Some threats may use license.rtf to display pop-up advertisements, track your browsing habits or contact a predetermined remote server. Others may need it to compromise system security or deliver severe damage to your computer. In any case, DO NOT open this file!
The license.rtf file is installed and used by keylogger QuietEye. It is also related to other parasites such as keylogger Spy.Lantern.Keylogger and RemoteExec 2.04. These threats can use license.rtf for different purposes, as the file’s functionality depends on a particular parasite it belongs to.
In some cases a presence of license.rtf does not mean that your system is infected. The file may actually belong to some fully legitimate applications and therefore must stay intact. If you are in doubt, please scan the license.rtf file using you regular spyware remover or antivirus program.
