5Finder – a fake search engine which compromises users’ web browsing experience

5Finder is a browser hijacker which presents itself as a custom Chrome Search extension. Unfortunately, similarly to many other suspicious browser add-ons, it seeks to compromise users’ browsing experience by modifying web page settings, showing sponsored search results and even tracking their personal information.
Among modifications to the browser, 5Finder virus might increase the possibility of spam in your email’s inbox too. Such activity can also cause ransomware attack, identity theft, and similar issues.
From the first sight, 5Finder.com virus might seem like a legitimate and reliable tool which was created to help users search the web easier. Unfortunately, its developer has put lots of effort into tricking users into adding this browser hijacker[1] to their web browser and convince the user of their usefulness.
5Finder targets the most popular web browsers, including users’ favorites Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox. Once installed, it modifies browser settings by assigning a new tab URL, the default search engine and the homepage to 5finder.com. Additionally, it might cause various unpleasant events:
- Searches might redirect to different websites
- The user can find many toolbars on a web browser which he/she never installed or seen before
- The web pages might be loading considerably slower than they should
- Many different pop-up advertisements which, when clicked on, can lead to very dangerous, malware-filled websites of
- various content (pornographic, gambling, etc.)[2]
These changes are usually irreversible, and the user will have no choice but to put up with them. However, letting PUP remain on the system is not recommended. Security experts advise removing 5finder.com as soon as it hijacks your homepage.
5finder.com removal is recommended not only to get back control over your browser and get rid of suspicious ads but to protect your privacy as well. According to the privacy policy, this program can record:
- IP address
- URLs visited
- Any private data entered while using the browser which is then sold to third parties for profit; this compromises not only
- user’s money but also can cause identity theft which can lead to serious consequences.
The quickest way to remove 5finder from the system is to scan the device with reputable anti-malware such as FortectIntego. However, you can also follow manual removal guide given below the article.

5Finder.com has an official download website but can also infect the machine while installing free software
There are few ways how 5Finder hijack might. First of all, there is an official download for this – with perfectly written terms of use and good looking website. However, most people infect their machines while installing free software downloaded from the internet.
Using the deceptive marketing method called “bundling,” 5Finder.com infiltrates the machine after the user does not use “Advanced” options while installing free software. Users tend to skip repetitive parts and usually rush to install software without properly checking what are they installing on their computers.
By rushing these steps and not paying enough attention, users typically infiltrate their machines with browser hijackers. As a result, they put their privacy at risk and expose their systems to various cyber threats, security experts from Los Virus[3] say.
Therefore, users should be extremely vigilant while installing any type of software. Only “Advanced/Custom” modes should be used, and every step analyzed while skipping any unwanted applications.
Termination of the 5Finder virus
You can remove 5Finder from the computer using anti-malware software or manually. However, using security software is quicker and easier solution. As you already know, the hijacker spreads bundled with various programs. Thus many other suspicious components may have been installed too.
However, if you feel capable of finding all these entries yourself, check manual 5Finder removal guide below. Please, follow each of the steps carefully. If you skip some of the hijacker-related entries, you might experience re-hijack.
