How to remove IPA virus

A step-by-step removal guide for affected devices. Follow the verified procedure below — most readers complete it in under 10 minutes.

Jake Doevan · Computer technology expert

IPA virus is a nasty piece of ransomware that belongs to Ukash virus group and actively attacks European PC users. Just like its predecessors, it pretends to be sent by International Police Association and seeks to get its victims out of their money. Note that there are many versions of this threat, like Austrian, Swiss, German, Spanish, French, Greek, Italian or Swedish versions. They all use local language of the victim and require to pay the fine for various law violations. However, falling for this payment, which is required on IPA virus alert, will leave you with the same blocked computer (It becomes locked down as soon as this ransomware manages to get inside the PC). In order to unlock your machine, you must remove IPA virus as soon as possible.

HOW PEOPLE GET INFECTED WITH IPA VIRUS?

IPA virus closely relies on Trojan Win32/LockScreen. It typically gets inside the system together with freeware, shareware or other downloads that look trustworthy. As soon as it is downloaded, it blocks the system down and prevents its victims from accessing their Desktop. Instead of it, they see only a fake warning that declares that International Police Association has found you watching copyrighted content, spreading it and distributing malware. Of course, that's a total scam that seeks to get users out of their money. Mostly, such IPA alerts look like that:

El ordenador suyo esta bloqueado
El ordenador suyo fue bloqueado por el sistema del control informativo automatizado

or

Votre ordinateur est bloqué
Votre ordinateur a été bloqué par le système de contrôle automatique informationnel

Though they look realistic, be aware that you must ignore IPA virus and such alerts displayed on the desktop out of nowhere. If you fall for paying the money, you will lose it and you won't find your PC unblocked.

HOW CAN I REMOVE IPA VIRUS?

It's really important to unlock your computer first of all because you won't be capapble to launch your anti-malware program and run a full system scan with it. For that, try using these steps:

  1. Take another machine and use it to download FortectIntego, SpyHunterCombo Cleaner or MalwarebytesMalwarebytes.
  2. Update the program and put into the USB drive or simple CD.
  3. In the meanwhile, reboot your infected machine to Safe Mode with command prompt and stick USB drive in it.
  4. Reboot computer infected with IPA virus once more and run a full system scan.

Besides, you should run a full system scan again to make sure that there are no IPA virus leftovers on your computer.
