What is RECGUARD.EXE?

Ugnius Kiguolis The mastermind Published Updated

recguard.exe is a filename that can be found on most of the Hewlett-Packard computers. It comes inside systems with specific HP software and is located in C:\Windows subfolder. Please, do NOT terminate RecGuard because it helps to protect Windows XP Recovery Partition from accidental modifications and removal. No matter that it's not a core Windows file, we don't recommend deleting this file!

There are many names of legitimate executables that have been involved into malicious activities. Scammers, trying to hide their own viruses, have been using names of legitimate files and hiding them in systems. If you think that recguard.exe is consuming lots of system's resources, you should check the trustworthiness of this file because it may be associated with such cyber infections as trojans, worms and other malware. For that we recommend using RegCure Pro.
