What is Configuration Utility.exe?

Configuration Utility.exe is a file or a process that might be associated with malware

Configuration Utility.exe is an executable file that you might find on your Windows computer. Alternatively, it can also represent a background process that could be visible within the Task Manager. The file uses a relatively broad term in its name, hence it can be a dependency of many different programs, some of which could be potentially malicious. The Configuration Utility.exe file could be installed and used by W32.HLLW.Lacon worm, which targets Windows operating systems. Worms can be particularly malicious infections as they do not require to be executed in order to infect various applications or/and system files.

It mostly spreads via the following channels:

  • peer-to-peer networks and pirated program websites;
  • malicious spam email attachments and hyperlinks;
  • mIRC or other chatting platforms.
