Worm Magistr – a family of malicious programs that reside in Windows memory
Worm Magistr is an extremely dangerous Internet worm that spreads in e-mails with infected executable attachments with extensions .exe, .scr, or .pif. It is very complex – it uses polymorphic techniques that infect EXE and SCR files located on the host computer as well as the shared drives.

On infected computers, the worm modifies several critical system files and infects all found local and remote executable files. It also damages vulnerable computers with shared resources from a local network.
After some time passed from the infection, the Magistr starts to affect the normal work of a system: it gains access to the desktop and moves all icons on it. It also corrupts some executable files.
After one month after infection, the worm deletes absolutely all data on hard disks and erases built-in computer software.
