What is newdot2.dll?

Jake Doevan Computer technology expert Published

newdot2.dll is a potentially malicious file, which doesn't belong to Windows

newdot2.dll is the file that belongs to Internet Explorer Add-on, which is used to generate revenue, increase web traffic and perform similar tasks. For that, this add-on promotes such nonstandard domains as .shop, .med, .mp3, and similar. Besides, it can fix mistaken or non-existing URL addresses and show search results when people enter keywords in the address bar. However, they shouldn't be trusted 100 percent.

Name newdot2.dll
Type The file that contains a dynamic link library
Issue The file can be found running as a process or trigger error messages
Damage If the malicious program is associated with the file – such processes can lead to serious malware installations
Repair Trying to recover after the  malware infection can take time, so run FortectIntego and fix any issues automatically

In most cases, newdot2.dll is installed unconsciously, behind the user's back during the installation of another program that includes this piece in some folders. This method is not malicious, but it can definitely be called unfair. You can install this file together with these programs: RealOne, AudioGalaxy, KaZaA, iMesh, Grokster, BearShare, Babylon, and Redlight.

In order to avoid it, stay away from these programs ad any freeware installation platforms, torrent sites, free download pages. If you to remove newdot2.dll, you must first remove these programs that create issues with the machine. After that, run a full system scan with MalwarebytesMalwarebytes or SpyHunterCombo Cleaner to make sure that no malicious pieces got left behind.
