4newtab.com hijacks your browser and secretly modifies its settings

4newtab.com virus generates search results filled with ads

4newtab.com is categorized as a browser hijacker which is able to alter browser settings without your permission. The developers of this shady search tool, Aztec Media, Inc., claim that it should improve your browsing experience. In reality, this fake search engine is set to fill search results with sponsored ads and generate pay-per-click revenue[1].

Once installed, this unreliable application does not ask your permission to set hxxps://www.4newtab.com as:

  • New tab URL;
  • Homepage;
  • Default search engine.

SemVirus.pt[2] experts warn that you can face real problems once you try to get rid of 4newtab hijacker. This unreliable application is designed to reset the settings mentioned above to the previous stage every time you decide to change them. Therefore, you are forced to use its services continuously.

You should be aware that 4newtab.com is not a malicious virus, but due to lousy service quality, some IT experts tend to call it that way. It may look similar to Google, Yahoo or other famous search engines. However, it is just a deceptive marketing trick used to lure people into downloading it.

Moreover, it may collect information that might be personally identifiable in the future. It includes IP addresses, geolocations, and other browsing-related data[3].

If that is not enough, the Privacy Policy clearly states the authors of the search tool shares your personal information with:

Business partners: When you engage in promotions offered through the Site, we may share Personal Information with the businesses with which we partner to offer you those products, services, promotions, contests and/or sweepstakes.

Therefore, we encourage you to protect your privacy and start a 4newtab.com removal immediately. This browser hijacker has several versions you might not have heard about. Thus, employ a reliable security software like Reimage and get rid of them all.

Other versions of 4newtab.com share similar features as the parent hijacker. However, they might come in different appearances or offers of “handy” tools to confuse users and complicate the elimination process even more.

Zip4NewTab virus. This fake search engine also alters your browser settings without your permission. However, this time developers offer to quickly extract or create a zip file to lure people into downloading Zip4NewTab search redirect virus. Besides, people might enjoy the provided quick access to their favorite social networking platforms. But once again, we warn you not to trust this questionable application and get rid of it immediately.

Pics4NewTab virus. The so-called virus redirects you to Yahoo Search every time you perform a search. May users might get tricked and believe in its legitimacy. But you can simply check the link in the address bar and compare it with the original one used by Yahoo search engine — they differ.

Pushing sponsored results brought by Pics4NewTab search redirect virus is just another method used to generate pay-per-click revenue. Thus, stay away from this fake search engine if you want to protect your computer.

All these versions of 4 New Tab display ads that might redirect you to suspicious websites. Developers also state:

4NewTab shall have no liability or responsibility to you for any content or materials that may be available in connection with the Site that you might find objectionable.

If you want to avoid high-risk computer infections, do not continue to use 4NewTab.com services or its other versions.

Potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) are hidden in the installer of regular software
