Remove Ads by KMPlayer (Removal Guide) - Jan 2015 update

removal by Gabriel E. Hall - - | Type: Adware

What is KMPlayer and why does it cause ads on its sidebar?

KMPlayer is a widely used multimedia player which is also known as K-Multimedia Player and KMP. It is not a virus and can be downloaded from its official website or other reputable download sources. However, no matter how useful it is, its developers have been set it to show sponsored ads in its window. This app can cause the sidebar which is filled with “recommended fixers”, various mobile apps, games, browser extensions and similar notifications. Beware that the more ads you click, the bigger amount of money their creators earn. However, the biggest problem is related to the fact that “ads by KMPlayer” have been noticed to be slightly malicious, i.e. they may contain links to the questionable websites that may be filled with misleading content. In the worst case scenario, you may be rerouted to a website that is used for spreading viruses or malware. Make sure that you stay away from pop-up ads that claim:

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

You may need to fix Windows errors
Scan now to diagnose errors
Do you want to scan and repair now?

To avoid these misleading notifications, you can either remove KMPlayer from your computer or disable its sidebar. For the first option, we recommend using a reputable anti-spyware, such as Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego. This option is especially recommended if this potentially unwanted program has infiltrated your computer in a bundle with other software. If you need a player, you cal always switch to VLC Media Player.

As we have just mentioned, KMPlayer can be installed without expecting that. If you can’t remember installing it on your computer manually, it is very likely that this application infiltrated your machine as an optional component. Due to the fact that it travels along with freeware as additional component and people don’t remember downloading it themselves, they have started calling it “KMPlayer virus”. As we have already mentioned, it is just a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that causes ads on its sidebar. If you want to prevent them, make sure you follow a guide given below the picture. In fact, we highly recommend doing that because some of these ads belong to questionable parties who seek to flood their users with appealing advertisements and trick them into downloading useless software. KMPlayer removal guide can also be found in the end of this article. However, let’s discuss its distribution methods first.

How can this player enter my computer?

You can download KMPlayer multimedia player from its official website. It is a RELIABLE application which has nothing in common with viruses. However, recent researches of security experts have revealed that this player has also been actively distributed using “bundling” method. It means that you can find this multimedia player on your computer right after downloading another program. No matter how useful it seems, you should never fall into accepting the installation of KMPayer along with another freeware because it can be filled with additional components. That’s why it has been categorized by some of security vendors as a PUP and an adware. The problem is that people do not pay enough attention to the installation of the freeware and skip notifications that are displayed during this process. Consequently, they start seeing “Ads by KMPlayer” and similar notifications on their computer. Beware that clicking them can lead you to suspicious websites! In order to avoid that, you must opt for Advanced or Custom installation option and monitor the entire installation process of such free programs as download managers, PDF creators, video streaming software and similar programs. Besides, make sure you use official websites instead of third-party download sites to prevent unwanted changes on your computer. Otherwise, you may get tricked into installing the whole bundle of programs instead of one.

How can I disable KMPlayer ads and remove this player?

To disable KMPlayer ads that appear on your screen while using this program, use these steps:

  • Open the Hosts file and go to its end. Type in: 127.0.0.1 player.kmpmedia.net
  • Click Ctrl+S to save your changes.

Access your website securely from any location

When you work on the domain, site, blog, or different project that requires constant management, content creation, or coding, you may need to connect to the server and content management service more often. It is a hassle when your website is protected from suspicious connections and unauthorized IP addresses.

The best solution for creating a tighter network could be a dedicated/fixed IP address. If you make your IP address static and set to your device, you can connect to the CMS from any location and do not create any additional issues for server or network manager that need to monitor connections and activities. This is how you bypass some of the authentications factors and can remotely use your banking accounts without triggering suspicious with each login.

VPN software providers like Private Internet Access can help you with such settings and offer the option to control the online reputation and manage projects easily from any part of the world. It is better to clock the access to your website from different IP addresses. So you can keep the project safe and secure when you have the dedicated IP address VPN and protected access to the content management system.

Backup files for the later use, in case of the malware attack

Computer users can suffer various losses due to cyber infections or their own faulty doings. Software issues created by malware or direct data loss due to encryption can lead to problems with your device or permanent damage. When you have proper up-to-date backups, you can easily recover after such an incident and get back to work.

It is crucial to create updates to your backups after any changes on the device, so you can get back to the point you were working on when malware changes anything or issues with the device causes data or performance corruption. Rely on such behavior and make file backup your daily or weekly habit.

When you have the previous version of every important document or project you can avoid frustration and breakdowns. It comes in handy when malware occurs out of nowhere. Use Data Recovery Pro for the system restoring purpose.
