Icoshaderon.com might hijack your browser and cause browsing-related problems

Screenshot of Icoshaderon.com

Icoshaderon.com is a search engine created by Victory Commerce Ltd. It spreads with the help of IcoshaderOn browser extension that is promoted in software bundles. This quite shady distribution method is one of the reasons why this search tool is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP).

Nevertheless, the main page of Icoshaderon.com includes flying icosahedrons that resemble old Windows screen-savers; it also mirrors Google’s design. The top menu bar includes links to G+, Gmail, Image and Video search categories. Besides, the search engine itself redirects to Google results page as well.

Additionally, Icoshaderon.com has shortcuts to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other popular websites and shops. On the bottom, users can also find local weather forecast and other weather-related information. However, these features are tricky because this program has several issues related to secure browsing and personal privacy.[1]

So-called Icoshaderon.com virus can sneak into the system silently and hijack web browser. Thus, it works as a browser hijacker that can take control over default web browser and force users to use this search tool against their will.

However, the biggest problems are related to Icoshaderon.com redirect issues. The suspicious browser extension might deliver misleading third-party ads and offer to participate in conduct surveys and contest. The problem is that this content might lead to phishing, scam[2] or infected website where you can suffer from cyber criminals.

The increased possibility of encountering cyber threat is definitely one of the main reasons why you should remove icoshaderon.com. However, this is necessary for keeping your information secured and hardly accessible to advertising networks. According to the Privacy Policy, it can collect:

  • Anonymous User Information that includes IP address, referral data, browser, and platform type.
  • Individual User Information that includes some personally identifiable information, such as email address, shipping address, zip code, age, gender, occupation, household income.

According to specialists from the Denmark,[3] data tracking helps to profit from online advertising and annoy users a lot. Therefore, you should not let it happen and perform Icoshaderon.com removal using Reimage or another anti-malware.

Users install suspicious browser extension unintentionally

Icoshaderon.com hijack is always unexpected. It seems that search engine appeared on the browser out of nowhere. If you try to find the official download site of this extension, probably, you will not find it. Therefore, it’s distribution relies on bundling and bad users’ habits.

The PUP travels attached to software packages. If users install freeware with Recommended/Standard settings, they give these “additional downloads” permission to enter the system without even realizing it.

In order to avoid installation of undesired apps, you have to opt for Advanced/Custom settings and unmark all pre-selected entries. It’s the only way to stop them.
