Remove My ShopMate ads (Virus Removal Guide)

removal by Alice Woods - - | Type: Adware

An overview of the questionable My ShopMate characteristics:

To begin with, My ShopMate virus has an official website on which it is introduced as a smart shopping assistant. As a disclaimer we must say that we will not evaluate the functionality of this program but simply comment on a few issues the users and security experts encounter while using it. We should also point out that this application is not technically a virus because it cannot damage your computer itself, but it can be regarded as one because of the questionable activities it initiates on the infiltrated system. This program is designed specifically for the Mac OS X, so the users of Windows or Linux can sit back and relax. However, we do not advise you to let your guard down completely because My ShopMate hijack can easily turn its focus on other operating systems. That’s why we recommend monitoring your computer and running regular scans with respectable anti-virus tools, such as Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego.

Questions about My ShopMate ads

Once this virus finds its way through the OS X security system, it primarily targets your browser, so you will probably notice most of the virus indications while surfing the web. It will install as a browser extension on your Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari and will immediately start generating a surprising amount of ads. We can’t judge My ShopMate for attempting to present the user with the service he/she subscribed for, but the problem is, the ads and links it offers rarely correspond to the actual user’s interests. It seems that the creators of this application are more focused on promoting their affiliates rather than actually investing in a better service. Besides, they take no responsibility for the content these third-parties decide to advertise:

Furthermore, we have no control over the content of any such advertisements and the existence of the advertisements shall not be construed as an endorsement by the Company of the advertisement or their content.

This means that My ShopMate ads may contain cookies, hide potentially dangerous links or even attract malware to your computer. So, this adware may not be responsible for infecting your computer itself, but it makes a considerable input, allowing this to happen. If you are not willing to risk your computer’s security, or if you simply do not feel happy with the received service, do not hesitate to remove My ShopMate and free some space on your computer.

How does this malware find its way on my computer?

There is an easy explanation to why you suddenly started seeing My ShopMate ads on your browser. The thing is, you did not even have download the app directly from its official website http://www.macmyshopmate.com/. It may have installed on your computer together with other freeware or shareware applications such as PDF converters, download managers, audio players, etc. How could you miss the installation, you ask? Pretty simple. You probably rushed through the software’s setup in “Quick” or “Recommended” modes. Instead, you should have taken the longer path and chosen the “Advanced/ Custom” settings to evaluate whether all the software components are really worth installing on your computer. These settings usually disclose the additional software package components, if there are any, and allow the users to pick out unnecessary programs.

Our opinion on My ShopMate removal:

We cannot determine whether this program actually brings benefit to the long-term users. So, whether you should keep or remove My ShopMate from your device is all for your to decide. We can only offer you the tools which could help achieve the removal as effectively as possible. It is important to point out that antivirus utilities may not detect this program since it is not a virus. Nevertheless, scanning your computer with such a utility is always advisable if you want to maintain a virus-free system. Manual My ShopMate removal is a secondary option, but if the anti-malware utility fails to eliminate the program automatically, you may have to deal with it yourself. In order not to get lost, follow the instructions provided below.

Access your website securely from any location

When you work on the domain, site, blog, or different project that requires constant management, content creation, or coding, you may need to connect to the server and content management service more often. It is a hassle when your website is protected from suspicious connections and unauthorized IP addresses.

The best solution for creating a tighter network could be a dedicated/fixed IP address. If you make your IP address static and set to your device, you can connect to the CMS from any location and do not create any additional issues for server or network manager that need to monitor connections and activities. This is how you bypass some of the authentications factors and can remotely use your banking accounts without triggering suspicious with each login.

VPN software providers like Private Internet Access can help you with such settings and offer the option to control the online reputation and manage projects easily from any part of the world. It is better to clock the access to your website from different IP addresses. So you can keep the project safe and secure when you have the dedicated IP address VPN and protected access to the content management system.

Backup files for the later use, in case of the malware attack

Computer users can suffer from data losses due to cyber infections or their own faulty doings. Ransomware can encrypt and hold files hostage, while unforeseen power cuts might cause a loss of important documents. If you have proper up-to-date backups, you can easily recover after such an incident and get back to work. It is also equally important to update backups on a regular basis so that the newest information remains intact – you can set this process to be performed automatically.

When you have the previous version of every important document or project you can avoid frustration and breakdowns. It comes in handy when malware strikes out of nowhere. Use Data Recovery Pro for the data restoration process.
