Installation of MyBrowsersPage.com might interfere normal browsing sessions

MyBrowsersPage.com startup page

MyBrowsersPage.com is presented as startup page for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera web browsers. Nevertheless, it has an official website; it might also trick users into installing it without realizing it. The program spreads in software bundles[1] as the WebStart.me browser extension.

Ability to infiltrate the system silently makes people believe that they are dealing with some kind of MyBrowsersPage.com virus. However, it’s not such dangerous cyber threat. Security experts note that it’s a potentially unwanted program (PUP) which has features of the browser hijacker.

The MyBrowsersPage.com offers quick access to popular social networks, email services, search providers and other sites. Even though it might allow customizing a convenient browser’s startup page, you should manage your bookmarks and shortcuts without the interference of this program.

After the installation, you might have to deal with suspicious MyBrowsersPage.com redirect tendencies. It means that the hijacker might reroute you to unknown third-party websites. These redirects might occur when you click on a search result, links or out of nowhere. Indeed, such activities are annoying, but the PUP might force you to visit phishing[2] or other high-risk websites.

The hijacker is also related to MyBrowserHome.com and DuckDuckGo. These search services are highly discussed in the online community. Experts assume that these programs might be not safe to use. Therefore, users are also advised to stay away or remove MyBrowsersPage.com from their devices.

However, MyBrowsersPage.com removal might be slightly complicated. Browser hijackers are often capable of making some changes to the system, installing add-ons, altering Registry entries or shortcuts. Therefore, users have to reject all these modifications in order to get rid of the hijacker entirely. You can use Reimage to speed up this process.

Installation of free programs might end up with hijacked web browser

RCPmedia, developers of the MyBrowsersPage, offers to download this browser add-on directly from the official website. However, it’s not the only way how this application might end up on web browsers. According to the researchers from senzavirus.it,[3] this potentially unwanted program might be distributed with the help of various freeware.

Software bundling is the main distribution method of the PUPs, so you should follow these basic tips to avoid accidental installation of unwanted apps:

  • Opt for the Advanced/Custom installation settings instead of Quick/Recommended.
  • Monitor installation process and remove ticks from pre-selected additional downloads.
  • Read the Privacy policy, Terms of Use and other provided documents.
  • Do not install software that does not include above-mentioned documents that provide crucial information about data tracking and installation of additional software.

Eliminating MyBrowsersPage.com correctly

If your startup page was changed, you have probably tried to switch back to the normal settings and failed. It happened because of previously mentioned hijackers ability to install additional components and altering settings. Therefore, in order to remove MyBrowsersPage.com entirely, you have to clean all these entries.

The instructions below will show you how to investigate the system and wipe out all questionable entries from the device. However, you can always opt for the automatic MyBrowsersPage.com removal option and let anti-malware software to clean these components for you.
