MyHomePage.pro virus. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)

MyHomePage.pro wants to change your browsing habits

The image of MyHomePage.pro

MyHomePage.pro is another suspicious search engine created by RCPmedia that offers quick access to numerous popular websites and social networks. The program is related to other questionable products, such as Webstart.me and DuckDuckGo. Additionally, it looks identical and has the same functionality as MyBrowserHome.com. Thus, it works as a browser hijacker.

The MyHomePage.pro hijack might occur when users install some free programs under Quick settings. Once inside, this program might:

  • set its domain as homepage address;
  • replace default search engine with another website;
  • install add-ons[1] to Chrome, Firefox, Explorer or another web browser;
  • trigger redirects to promotional websites;
  • track information related to browsing habits and history;
  • prevent users from MyHomePage.pro removal.

The main concerns are related to MyHomePage.pro redirect tendencies because the program not only redirects to DuckDuckGo results page but might also reroute to unknown websites once you click on a results link. The problem is that some of these redirects might lead to sites that are created by scammers or cybercriminals.

As you can see, the so-called MyHomePage.pro virus cannot cause direct damage to your device. It can only increase chances to catch cyber threats and suffer from online scams due to the redirect tendencies. Additionally, the program might deliver insecure or infected ads which seem legit, interesting and safe to click because they are delivered based on user’s profile.

According to the privacy policy, MyHomePage.pro might collect some information about users and use it for the commercial purposes. Also, gathered information about user’s browsing habits and history might be shared or even sold to business partners. Hence, if you use this search service, you might be flooded with tons of advertisements.

Though, we highly recommend getting rid of this tool. Some of the ads[2] might be malicious and previously mentioned redirect issues might increase your chances to suffer from serious cyber threats. Thus, you should use Reimage and remove MyHomePage.pro with the help of this anti-malware.

Download sources of the program

The program has an official website and is available in the form of browser extension in app stores. However, it might also spread bundled with various free programs. When you download some freeware, you can find My Homepage extension offered to download alongside with the primary program.

Security experts from Romania[3] suggest rejecting such offers because majority programs that are advertised in this way cause more problems than benefit users. Therefore, in order to avoid infiltration of annoying third-party apps, you should always use “Advanced” or “Custom” installation settings and monitor the process.

If you rush through the installation wizard or rely on “Quick” or “Standard” setup, you might accidentally install potentially dangerous programs to your device.

Removal of the MyHomePage.pro virus

In order to remove MyHomePage.pro from Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari or other web browsers, you have to uninstall My Homepage extension as well as other add-ons created by RCPmedia. Additionally, you have to make sure that any related entries were not installed to the system.

The manual MyHomePage.pro removal instructions are given down below. If they seem clear to you, do not waste your time and wipe out this parasite from the device. If you have troubles with manual removal, you should opt for the automatic elimination and rely on reputable anti-malware.

You can remove MyHomePage.pro automatically with a help of one of these programs: Reimage, Plumbytes Anti-MalwareWebroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus, Malwarebytes Anti Malware. We recommend these applications because they can easily delete potentially unwanted programs and viruses with all their files and registry entries that are related to them.
