Search.packageintransit.com virus. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)

Package In Transit software forces you to use bogus Search.packageintransit.com search engine

Installing Search.packageintransit.com virus changes some settings in web browsers, such as homepage, default extra tab page and default search engine settings. It inserts Package in Transit extension[1] to Chrome, Mozilla and possibly other web browsers to prevent the user from changing the new configuration. This potentially unwanted program (PUP) falls into browser hijacker category because it alters these settings without explicitly notifying the computer user first. Repetitious redirects to hxxp://Search.packageintransit.com/ is the least problematic matter when dealing with this browser hijacker – the real danger lies in PackageInTransit search results, which are filled with ads. The suspicious search engine provided by the described website delivers SaferBrowser search results, and this small detail rings an alarm bell, telling you to that these results are not genuine Yahoo Search results (as it seems at first sight at them). Clicking on these search results can take you to hazardous places on the Internet, such as pages filled with dangerous downloads[2] or sites that are simply deceptive. If you want to avoid general Internet hazards, we suggest you remove Search.packageintransit.com right away. For that, programs like Reimage can be used.

Search engine by Search.packageintransit.com virus

Another fundamental concern is related to this program’s privacy policy. The author of the hijacker is Polarity Technologies, Ltd., and this name is well known to cyber security experts. This company has developed dozens of annoying browser hijackers that, instead of improving users’ browsing experience, simply deteriorates it. The primary goal of this program is to serve paid search results and not the organic ones and to trick the victim into clicking on them, the hijacker seeks to make them look at least a little bit interesting. To achieve this, the hijacker tracks the computer user for a while, collecting one’s search queries, browsing history, clicks, time-stamp, and similar data. Such information is not considered to be personal, although your search queries can contain such details. Collected information is stored on servers and can be shared with third-party advertisers and other companies. You can never know who gets access to such information and how it is going to be used, so we suggest you act carefully. If you do not want to worry about your privacy, better remove the redirect virus using anti-spyware programs or Search.packageintransit.com removal tutorial that can be found below the article.

Distribution tricks used by spyware developers

Usually, freeware installers do not reveal information about what they are going to install in addition to the main program because they seek to convince the computer user to install certain third-party programs without even realizing it. Such software bundles can be downloaded from the majority of file sharing sites, so be careful! Although not all bundled programs are dangerous, we advise not installing them unless you know that they are entirely safe. To find the information about additional software, you need to choose Custom or Advanced installation option. Then you should find pre-marked checkboxes next to statements allowing installation of “recommended” programs. All that you need to do is to deselect these checkboxes in order to install your chosen software without any additions.
