Searchie Removal Guide
What is Searchie?
Searchie virus – a browser hijacker that might show up on your browser without permission
Searchie is a name of a shady Chrome extension, which is presented as a convenient tool that allows changing the default new tab page in a single click. It provides Google, YouTube, Yahoo, Bing, Amazon, and, unfortunately, one more website, which is not so secure. It suggests using Search.strtpoint.com search engine, which is a highly insecure web search provider.
You should think twice before installing Searchie because it is not a trustworthy web extension. What is more, computer security experts claim that it can be described as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and also as a browser hijacker since it can enter the victim’s computer along with other free programs and install itself without directly notifying the computer user.
Although almost the entire pack of search engines Searchie browser hijacker offers is safe, there is one that raises our suspicions. As we have already mentioned, it also suggests using the Search.strtpoint.com search engine, which is set as the default homepage and new tab page as soon as the user installs this browser extension.
The user can change these settings later; however, there is a good chance that some computer users might not even notice these changes that Searchie browser hijacker applies, especially if they did not download and install this shady extension by their choice. We would like to warn you about problems that the Searchie extension can cause, and probably the most notable one is the redirect issue.
It was noticed that the search engine, which is presented on the Searchie New Tab page and homepage, initiates redirects to suspicious third-party websites once the computer user clicks on its search results. Beware of this search engine because it can lead you to possibly malicious websites; we recommend avoiding visiting them; otherwise, you might end up installing spyware or malware type software on your computer.
Another disadvantage that the Searchie browser hijacker has is that it can start sending you hundreds of annoying pop-up and banner ads. These ads can be marked as:
- “ads by Searchie”
- “brought to you by Searchie”
- “Searchie ads.”
Clicking on these ads can also trigger redirects, and you might end up on doubtfully trustworthy websites. Please stay away from any suggestions to install third-party software or software updates from Internet sites if you were forced to visit them. To fix all these problems, we suggest you uninstall Searchie extension and related programs from your computer.
The best way to remove Searchie is to run a system scan with an anti-spyware software like SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner and eliminate all infectious and simply doubtfully reliable programs from your system. To clean the web browsers automatically, use FortectIntego. For manual Searchie removal instructions, check the bottom section of this article.
You can easily avoid the unintentional installation of PUPs
If the Searchie hijack has already occurred, you have to remove it from your system and learn how to avoid installing similar PUPs in the future. As we have already mentioned, you can place this program on your PC without realizing it if you tend to install the software carelessly.
Please do not rely on pre-selected installation options such as Default or Standard because these settings will simply install various optional applications along with your preferred software. What you might not notice is a text that reads:
By clicking Default, you agree to change your homepage and new tab function
You have to opt these additions out by choosing Advanced/Custom settings and deselecting each additional component. It is a simple technique that you should practice each time you download and set up new software on your PC.
Remove Searchie from your web browser
You can remove Searchie virus manually – it is not hard to do it. You just need to find the list of Chrome add-ons and eliminate the extension from there and then review the entire computer system to detect the leftovers of this app or other PUPs. We recommend you to follow the Searchie removal guide, which is given below.
After performing Searchie removal manually, do not forget to scan your computer system with an anti-spyware tool to see if there are no other harmful programs on your PC system. It is also advisable to obtain good anti-spyware software that would be able to protect your computer from adware, browser hijackers, trojans, viruses, and other dangerous programs.
You may remove virus damage with a help of FortectIntego. SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner and Malwarebytes are recommended to detect potentially unwanted programs and viruses with all their files and registry entries that are related to them.

How to prevent from getting browser hijacker
Choose a proper web browser and improve your safety with a VPN tool
Online spying has got momentum in recent years and people are getting more and more interested in how to protect their privacy online. One of the basic means to add a layer of security – choose the most private and secure web browser. Although web browsers can't grant full privacy protection and security, some of them are much better at sandboxing, HTTPS upgrading, active content blocking, tracking blocking, phishing protection, and similar privacy-oriented features. However, if you want true anonymity, we suggest you employ a powerful Private Internet Access VPN – it can encrypt all the traffic that comes and goes out of your computer, preventing tracking completely.
Lost your files? Use data recovery software
While some files located on any computer are replaceable or useless, others can be extremely valuable. Family photos, work documents, school projects – these are types of files that we don't want to lose. Unfortunately, there are many ways how unexpected data loss can occur: power cuts, Blue Screen of Death errors, hardware failures, crypto-malware attack, or even accidental deletion.
To ensure that all the files remain intact, you should prepare regular data backups. You can choose cloud-based or physical copies you could restore from later in case of a disaster. If your backups were lost as well or you never bothered to prepare any, Data Recovery Pro can be your only hope to retrieve your invaluable files.
