“Ads by undefined” and similar pop-up notifications should be a warning sign for you that your computer is affected by adware. Having such potentially unwanted program on board is not a pleasant experience because this nasty parasite can surely make your browsing quite miserable. It is focused on making money from online advertising, so there is no surprise that it causes tons of different ads. No matter how harmless they look, do not get deceived! Undefined ads are a mechanism used to redirect people to needed websites that are trying to increase their popularity. Because of these ads, you can find yourself redirected to third party websites filled with suspicious links and similar content. In case you wonder how a couple of ads displayed on your web browser can benefit the malware creators, let us explain. First of all, the amount of the ads is quite extensive. We doubt that anyone would make a large fuss about a couple of ads that appear here and there while browsing the net, so we must take angry users and complaints into consideration. In their reports, people claim that undefined hijack results in seriously annoying activity. People’s browsers become flooded with ads, pop-ups, sound and video advertisements, banners and more. The virtual layer which is affected by them usually disables victims of undefined from closing its ads, so the browser has to be re-opened and the cycle repeats once again.
Secondly, these ads designed to make the malware creators pay-per-click revenue. The clicks they gather bring profit to the virus creators, while the users have no idea about it. Besides the browser itself may freeze or crash not having withheld the amount of data being generated through it. This application may promise you an improved browsing or shopping experience, but all the negative impact it makes on the computer does not simply counterbalance that. Thus, the best solution we can offer is to remove Undefined from your computer and not allow shady parties use you to make a profit.
How do malware creators distribute their products?
The most of potentially unwanted programs that work like this PUP are distributed via “bundling” technique which is based on three basic steps:
- The malware developers create software packages consisting of their malicious products and regular software, usually popular freeware or shareware applications.
- They modify software installer to run “Quick” or “Recommended” installation modes by default to display only the legitimate application and conceal the additional package components.
- They upload such a corrupted software package on software sharing sites, peer-to-peer networks and start lurking for their victims.
- There is a flaw in this plan, though. You can always opt out the “Quick” or “Recommended” installation and choose “Advanced” or “Custom” modes instead. Monitoring the installation in greater detail allows you to have more control over what software is actually entering your computer and block the insecure components manually.
