What is UnfriendTool?

UnfriendTool is a potentially unwanted program, which may cause irritating advertisements, system slowdowns and even dangerous redirects to unknown websites. This program is mostly promoted as a useful tool that is supposed to help Facebook users to find information who “unfriended” them. In fact, if your would pay attention only to the description of this program, you would find out that it is almost identical to a program called FriendsChecker. It was included to our websites some time ago and has also been categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program.

So, if you have already downloaded UnfriendTool adware thinking that it will show you only the ones who unfriended you, we have some bad news for you. Beware that this questionable program may also modify each of your web browsers and then may start showing you various pop-up ads. As soon as it is added to the system, it may intentionally hijack your Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and other browsers, and start initiating annoying pop-ups, in-text ads, and other sponsored advertisements during each of your search sessions. In addition, it may also start tracking your browsing activity and may collect such things as your search terms, mostly visited websites, data that you enter when visiting them, your PC’s IP address, its location, etc. No matter that this data is considered as personally non-identifiable, we still believe that you should keep it for yourself.

If you have already downloaded UnfriendTool toy our computer as a useful program, you may have already understood that we don’t recommend you to leave it there. Otherwise, you may run into various issues, like UnfriendTool redirects, pop-up ads, slow downs and similar ones. In order to protect your computer from them, we highly recommend you to remove UnfriendTool adware from your system. For that you can use any of these programs: ReimageIntego (Windows OS) or Webroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus (Windows OS and Mac OS X).

How can UnfriendTool hijack my computer?

UnfriendTool is often promoted as a useful and a free tool. However, just like we have already mentioned, this dubious program may be involved in the distribution of other potentially unwanted programs, such as ad-supported plug-ins and extensions, so we don’t recommend installing it. In some other cases, UnfriendTool may be transmitted to your computer system with the help of free programs, such as Free Youtube Downloader, PDF File Generator, etc. In this case, you can easily add UnfriendTool to your system without your direct approval. In order to avoid that, you should avoid questionable programs and unsafe websites that typically show various banners that offer installing doubtful programs. In addition, make sure you select Custom or Advanced installation of the freeware to get more knowledge about optional components that it has. Of course, you should opt out of UnfriendTool and similar suggestions.

Stream videos without limitations, no matter where you are

There are multiple parties that could find out almost anything about you by checking your online activity. While this is highly unlikely, advertisers and tech companies are constantly tracking you online. The first step to privacy should be a secure browser that focuses on tracker reduction to a minimum.

Even if you employ a secure browser, you will not be able to access websites that are restricted due to local government laws or other reasons. In other words, you may not be able to stream Disney+ or US-based Netflix in some countries. To bypass these restrictions, you can employ a powerful Private Internet Access VPN, which provides dedicated servers for torrenting and streaming, not slowing you down in the process.

Data backups are important – recover your lost files

Ransomware is one of the biggest threats to personal data. Once it is executed on a machine, it launches a sophisticated encryption algorithm that locks all your files, although it does not destroy them. The most common misconception is that anti-malware software can return files to their previous states. This is not true, however, and data remains locked after the malicious payload is deleted.

While regular data backups are the only secure method to recover your files after a ransomware attack, tools such as Data Recovery Pro can also be effective and restore at least some of your lost data.
