Weemi.com virus. How to remove? (Uninstall guide)

Things to know if your PC was infected with Weemi.com hijacker

Weemi.com virus is a tricky browser hijacker[1] that tends to get into victim’s system without explicitly revealing its presence. Once installed, it meddles with some settings and sets hxxp://weemi.com/ as default start page as well as new tab page in Chrome, Internet Explorer, and other web browsers. The new start page provides a search tool that always delivers results full of ads. The reason why we never recommend experimenting and testing suspicious search engines that unexpectedly pop instead of your previous homepage is that they are often untrustworthy and provide more ads than organic search findings. As a rule, sponsored search results tend to lead to more dangerous web pages than organic results do. So if you want to protect your computer and also avoid visiting shady web pages, better avoid using the described search engine. Otherwise, it might throw you onto highly dangerous websites that promote possibly dangerous downloads, bogus surveys or seek to collect names and emails just to send spam[2]. If you have already entered similar sites when exploring search results brought by the described search tool, we suggest scanning the system using anti-malware or anti-spyware program. If you do not have one yet, we suggest installing one of the provided options: Reimage, Plumbytes Anti-MalwareWebroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus or Malwarebytes Anti Malware.

Screenhot of Weemi.com search tool

The browser hijacker also creates a new folder in C:\Program Files\Weemi and drops some files in there. If you noticed such suspicious folders in your PC, better scan the system with a decent anti-malware program like Reimage. It is not advisable to ignore this browser hijacker as it can pose a threat to your computer and your privacy. After analyzing the Privacy Policy document provided by this shady search tool we discovered that it is almost identical to KeenFinder.com’s, which is also known to be promoted with the help of browser hijackers. Remember that these shady programs often collect particular data about user’s activity online, such as a list of visited websites, search queries, geolocation of the computer and the IP address as well. Having such pile of information allows developers of shady third-party programs share such information with their affiliates and provide targeted advertisements to users. Be careful because these ads can be used as bait to lure you into dangerous web pages! That is one of the reasons why we suggest taking actions to complete Weemi.com removal as soon as possible.

Techniques used to push potentially unwanted programs to unsuspecting victims

Computer users rarely install potentially unwanted programs purposely. What happens most frequently is that developers of the potentially unwanted software bundle them with popular free programs and supplement Default or Standard installation options with statements that grant victim’s permission to install “recommended programs” alongside the main software. It is not a secret that the majority of computer users do not bother themselves reading all the boring information provided by software installers, which actually is one of the reasons why various virtual parasites hijack computer systems so quickly. Although it is not a must to read Privacy Policies or Terms of Use, it is an absolute must to configure software installation settings the right way. Therefore, when you get to choose settings for the installation, make sure you select Custom or Advanced option. This way, you will get access to the list of extra software suggested to you. To drop off unwanted elements, just remove ticks next to suggestions to install additional programs.
