Can you trust Yandex Toolbar?

“Yandex Toolbar virus” is a keyword that the users often type into their search window after finding this unfamiliar software on their computers. The sudden and unexpected program’s appearance on the computer may raise some of the more security-oriented users’ concerns but in reality, this toolbar is a legitimate program, created by a reputable Russian search service provider. The application is said to enhance user’s browsing experience by displaying quick links to weather forecast, email accounts, as well as notifying when a user receives an email, message on social network and so on. Sounds pretty useful, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, the program’s developers claims do not always reflect the true situation. After investigating the virus some experts even categorize it as a browser hijacker. Most of such a negative evaluation arises from the fact that Yandex Toolbar hijack may occur on most popular web browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer unexpectedly.

Although is not related to virus or malware in any way, the program’s creators use some quite questionable techniques to spread the virus around. Commonly it gets inside via various free program and immediately changes homepage and search engine to yandex.com (.ru). The presence of this potentially unwanted program on your computer may slow down your system because it uses your computer’s resources to operate. Commonly, programs like Yandex Toolbar redirect users to the questionable websites that cyber security experts normally would do not advise visiting. It is very likely that by visiting such websites you may be exposed to various pop-up advertisements and suspicious error messages that may try to trick you into clicking on them and downloading other PUPs on your computer. In addition to that, by using this app you risk to loose you personally and non-personally identifiable data, since this toolbar is installed with tracking software and monitors certain information related to your browsing habits. If you want to prevent installation of other unwanted programs on your computer, you have to terminate the redirects and remove Yandex Toolbar plug-in once from your web browsers. In order to do so, follow the instructions below or scan your system with FortectIntego.

Why did this toolbar appear on my computer without asking permission?

Such and similar programs are commonly installed as additional components along with other free software. Yandex Toolbar may have been installed automatically, bundled with questionable freeware using deceptive techniques to make it seem as if it is part of the freeware program being installed. This program is the least of your worries compared to the other malicious components that might infect your computer the same way. To avoid this happening, you should be very careful when installing free programs and avoid installing unfamiliar ones. Never install freewares recklessly without paying attention to the notes given on the installation wizard. Always opt out for Advanced or Custom installation mode, check every checkbox and click the ‘next’ button only when you are sure that there are no additional programs included. Be aware that various adwares and potentially unwanted programs that are about to be installed along with a freeware are always marked as default; therefore, if you click the next button without reading the whole thing, it is very likely that you will end up installing Yandex Toolbar or any other similar-type program. You may face difficulties in finding this program on your computer because it might not have its uninstaller. If you want to eliminate it, find the instructions below and perform the indicated steps.
