Fs0ci3ty ransomware virus is a threat that aims to get money from victims and scare them by locking various files. It seems that cybercriminals are obsessed with the Mr. Robot series and that cool hackers are role models to them – they have released yet another malware variant related to these American drama series. This one is called the Fs0ci3ty virus, and the previous version was called FSociety ransomware. This virus uses the AES-256 CBC encryption algorithm to secure victim’s files and make them inaccessible.

Simply said, it blocks access to them and removes any traits of the decryption key from the system. The virus adds a realfs0ciety@sigaint.org.fs0ciety file extension to each file, and, as you can see, this extension consists of two parts – email address and the name of the ransomware. The email address is created via SIGAINT, a darknet email service, which helps to conceal your geolocation and identity.

When the ransomware encrypts all files and renames them successfully, it writes filenames of encrypted data in a discovered.txt file and then runs the last function – crafts up a ransom note named Fs0ci3ty.html and saves it on compromised computer’s desktop. The ransom note opens in the default web browser and greets the victim with such words:

The rest of the message explains how to buy Bitcoins and that every victim gets a unique Bitcoin wallet address. Victims are asked to use the Unique 16 Byte identifier and contact the criminals via email for instructions on how to decrypt files.
