Nix Player does not operate as a safe and useful media player

Nix Player is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that has features of the browser hijacker and adware. However, due to its capability to display ads and deliver other commercial content, 2-spyware specialists included into ad-supported applications category.
The key features of the so-called Nix Player virus:
- ability to infiltrate the system bundled with freeware or shareware;[1]
- the possibility of altering Windows registry;
- hijacking Chrome, Firefox, Explorer, and other web browsers on the targeted computer;
- switching default search engine to srchbar.com or other suspicious domains;
- install unknown browser add-ons, such as Search Manager;
- display ads, pop-ups, banners and other types of ads;
- trigger sudden redirects to promotional third-party sites;
- collect information about users.
Nix Video Player is similar to KOOL player. Both of the programs are presented as useful and legitimate media players. However, apart from the primary function, they might make browsing the web unbearable and insecure activity.
The biggest concerns are related to Nix Player redirect tendencies because adware might force people to visit suspicious websites that might be created by cyber criminals. Therefore, having PUP installed on the browser, you might suffer from ransomware attack or infiltration of dangerous Trojan.
An enormous amount of Nix Player ads might also be dangerous. Usually, they offer to download unknown software or its updates. The problem is that this content might be misleading and include malware instead of legit applications or critical updates.
Nix Player adware also has a feature that allows bringing other PUPs into the system. Thus, once installed, it might also download numerous browser extensions[2] and add-ons that might diminish browsing experience and spy on you.
Thus, if you accidentally installed this suspicious player, you have to get rid of it immediately. The simplest way to remove Nix Player is to run a full system scan with anti-malware tool, for instance, FortectIntego. We can ensure that it can detect and delete this PUP entirely.
However, you should not delay Nix Player removal. Adware is capable of tracking information about you and sharing it with third-parties. Therefore, your browser might be flooded with advertisements. Keep in mind that you can never be sure which of them is malware-laden.

Software bundles help to spread the PUP
Nix Player hijack usually occurs during incorrect installation of freeware or shareware. Any free programs might include it in the package and install it without your knowledge if you use Quick/Standard installation guide.
Specialists from NoVirus.uk[3] note that users usually use this setup because they do not know that it does not inform about “optional downloads” and installs them silently. For this reason, it’s a must to use Advanced/Custom settings to avoid accidental installation of PUPs.
Keep in mind that this shady media player, as well as many other similar applications, can install other suspicious apps that might affect your computer and privacy at risk.
Uninstall Nix Video Player entirely
To remove Nix Player you have two options – following manual removal guide below or scanning the system with reputable anti-malware software. Keep in mind that adware may have arrived in a software bundle with other PUPs and may have installed undesired applications too. Thus, it’s easier to opt for the automatic elimination.
It doesn’t matter which Nix Player removal option you choose, you should not forget to reset each of the web browsers that are installed on your computer. It helps to delete all questionable extensions and tracking cookies.
