Search Swapper is a browser hijacker that affects your browser negatively

Search Swapper is a low-level computer parasite, which is known to be a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and a browser hijacker. Once installed, it adds an extension to Google Chrome (at the moment, this PUP is compatible only with this web browser). Then it replaces the default search engine with imp.searchswapper.com.

We have investigated what else Search Swapper can do and what permissions it has. It turns out, this suspicious software can read and change data on a website that it sets as a homepage and new tab page; besides, it can read user’s browsing history.

The website this PUP sets as homepage allows the user to swap backgrounds of it and also provides a search box. It also allows choosing what search engine the user wants to use – Yahoo, Google, or Bing. No matter which search engine you will pick, Search Swapper browser hijacker is going to alter search results the way it wants them to be.

Be careful, because it might inject suspicious third-party links into these safe-looking search results, which means you can get redirected to questionable Internet sources after trying to search and explore information via imp.searchswapper.com. If you do not want to end up on questionable or even malicious web pages, remove Search Swapper and search directly via Google, Yahoo or Bing.

Search Swapper

Despite the fact that it seems cool to have a choice and select a different search engine from a drop-down menu on your homepage, you should consider if you want to risk and use an untrustworthy site that causes Search Swapper redirects to questionable Internet sites.

Besides, the browser extension that this PUP adds can suddenly start sending you annoying pop-up ads.

So if you want to browse the Internet without seeing intrusive pop-up ads and banners, you should implement Search Swapper removal. You can use SpyHunterCombo Cleaner or MalwarebytesMalwarebytes anti-spyware application or just uninstall it manually by using the instructions provided at the bottom of this article.

Quick installation is not the best option if you want to avoid problems

According to our research, this program has its official website, which provides a download link. However, it looks like this program is spread using another distribution method as well.

This program travels around the web alongside other free programs, and it is usually presented as a “recommended download.” Commonly, free programs suggest installing more than one “recommended download,” so if you tend to rush through the steps of software’s setup, you risk ending up with several potentially unwanted programs on your computer.

To avoid installing unwanted components, rely on the Advanced or Custom installation option rather than Default/Standard/Basic/Express one because then you will be able to adjust components of your downloaded software and opt-out unwanted bonus applications.

Remove Search Swapper from the computer manually or automatically

Do not let catchy ads of this browser hijacker fool you – they can also make you experience the redirect issues, which we have described earlier. We recommend you remove Search Swapper so that you could enjoy your browsing sessions without experiencing redirects or receiving intrusive pop-ups ads.

Unfortunately, this particular browser hijacker does not have an uninstaller like regular computer programs do, which means that you have to find all of its components and eliminate them one by one. You can do it manually by following the instructions provided in the Search Swapper removal guide that is given below, or you can just use the anti-malware software we have mentioned earlier and let it find and delete all components of this and other PUPs from your PC.
