Speedomizer virus modifies browser settings without your permission

Speedomizer virus collects cookies, IP address, geolocation, etc.

Speedomizer is recognized as a browser hijacker which secretly sets user’s homepage and other browser settings to http://feed.speedomizer.com. As a result, this fake search engine causes Yahoo redirects and displays query results. The primary goal of the hijacker is to generate pay-per-click[1] revenue from sponsored ads.

According to LesVirus.fr[2] experts, Speedomizer generates annoying advertisements which are displayed once the user performs his/hers search sessions. These ads are usually designed to look attractive and lure computer users into clicking on them. However, there is a possibility to get redirected to a highly suspicious website and infect your computer with malware.

Thus, we recommend you to remove feed.speedomizer.com virus as soon as you recognize its presence to avoid further computer threats. You can check the elimination instructions provided at the end of this article and quickly get rid of the browser hijacker.

Besides, be aware that Speedomizer collects information about your browsing habits — IP address, geolocation, browsing history, cookies and the information you directly provide in its search bar. In other terms, if you submit your credentials, you can let its developers to access it and use it for their needs. Thus, you should avoid using this shady program to protect not only your computer system but also your privacy and valuable information.

If it is not enough, we should warn you that Speedomizer removal process might become complicated. Developers programmed it to change browser's default settings to the fake search engine every time user decides to reset it to its previous stage. As a result, people are forced to use its services daily.

Speedomizer is assigned as a default:

  • Homepage;
  • New tab URL;
  • Search engine.

Feed.speedomizer.com is a fake search engine that deteriorates your browsing experienceSpeedomizer virus redirects you to search.yahoo.com once you perform a search.

Therefore, we suggest you to eliminate the hijacker and employ a reliable security software to get rid of it. Our top picks would be Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego or Malwarebytes since that instantly determine the source of the ad-supported program and eliminate it.

Be careful when installing free software

The standard distribution method used to spread the browser hijackers is known as bundling.[3] Developers hide the controversial program in the package of a regular app offered online. Thus, many people unwillingly install the hijacker while downloading third-party applications and let it hijack their browsers.

Due to this deceptive marketing method used to distribute Speedomizer, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP). However, many disappointed computer users might call it a virus as well.

Tips to avoid potentially unwanted programs (PUPs):

  1. Use a professional anti-spyware software and don’t forget to keep it updated;
  2. Decline any offers to quickly install free apps — choose Custom or Advanced settings instead;
  3. Attentively monitor the installation procedure and check whether there are any pre-selected optional downloads. If there is, make sure to unmark them;
  4. Avoid clicking on promoted ads that might be displayed among your search results. Be aware that they might appear in the form of a banner, in-text or a pop-up.
