MacPro is a suspicious application that is being distributed with the help of fake Flash updates

MacPro is a rogue application that is promoted as a software installation/uninstallation manager for Mac OS. While many apps are offered online from official sources, such as Apple store or Amazon, this software is distributed with the help of fake Adobe Flash player installs. Additionally, users might find the MacPro Install on their systems after shareware or freeware installation, as software bundling is a distribution method that is prevalent among PUP[1] authors. Upon infiltration, the stealth program starts displaying intrusive adverts such as pop-ups, in-text links, pop-unders, banners, blinking windows on Google Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and other browsers. Additionally, the homepage, new tab and search engine are altered in order to reroute users to sponsored websites, which are not always safe to visit.

Adware is a sneaky type of computer software that focuses on promoting sponsors via a wide variety of ads. It typically achieves its goals by modifying various computer's settings, installing cookies and other tracking technologies and displaying targeted advertisement on victims' machines. It usually is promoted as software that is useful, just like MacPro does. However, it is not only a nuisance but also a danger for the safe virtual environment.
As we already mentioned, MacPro Install is mainly distributed with the help fake Adobe Flash Player updates. Research[2] shows that these rogue installers also offer Mac Cleanup Pro – another suspicious tool that is adware in disguise. You should immediately remove MacPro virus if you found it on your Mac – we prepared detailed instructions below.
Adware like MacPro can gather various anonymous and sensitive information that you enter into your browser while infected with the PUP. The data includes, but is not limited to:
- IP address;
- Technical information of the device;
- Websites visited;
- Links clicked;
- Visit duration, etc.
While MacPro claims to be free, it often prompts users to buy its licensed version as soon as users try to use the app. It is typical behavior of scareware,[3] as developers are focused on selling the rogue tool to as many users as possible. Therefore, never purchase anything that this app suggests – merely close down your browser and take care of MacPro removal.
All in all, the best thing would be avoiding the installation of MacPro Install. However, if you installed it with other software or got tricked by fake Flash updates, make sure you uninstall MacPro with the help of our instructions or security software of your choice. After the removal, we suggest you scan your device with FortectIntego, it can fix all the damage done by the virus.

Do not get tricked by fake updates and watch out for bundled software
Because the rogue app is mainly spread with the help of fake updates, we highly advise you to be extra careful when random pop-ups appear during web browsing sessions. Fake Flash updates are known to distribute not only adware or PUPs but also malware like Locky or XMRig.
Unless you are planning on playing kids' games online, there is no need to download and install Flash Player. The technology is outdated and contains plenty of security flaws. Additionally, many modern browsers like Chrome or Firefox have the pre-installed plugins that can play flash-based content. Thus, don't ever bother with Flash or its updates, and you will avoid many computer infections.
Nevertheless, if you need to download Flash, go to the official website and get it from there and only allow it to run with your permission.
To avoid all kinds of potentially unwanted programs, you should also be attentive while installing applications from the internet. Pick secure sources, do not rush the procedure, read carefully through the installation steps and always pick Advanced/Custom options so that you could eliminate all optional components.
Uninstall MacPro and use legitimate applications
If you found the suspicious app on your Mac, you should immediately take action to remove MacPro. You can first try using our manual guide below, although that might not be enough to stop MacPro virus from displaying persistent ads.
