What is sgtray.exe? Should I remove it?

by Jake Doevan - -

sgtray.exe is a process that is usually installed together with Veritas data backup utilities. This process can appear on your computer after you install Backup Exec Desktop Pro or other product from Veritas. sgtray.exe is responsible for a system tray icon which tends to popup in a form of reminder if you forget to backup your data. Typically, it can be found on task manager and it starts as soon as Windows starts.

Some malware programs use legitimate processes to hide their presence on the computer. In order to check if the sgtray.exe process is malicious, check the location of sgtray.exe. If this file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, you must run a full system scan with reputable anti-spyware because there is a high chance that you have virus, spyware, trojan or worm on your computer!
