Scam emails
Is this email a scam?
Most scam emails follow a handful of scripts. Check yours against the signs below, look for it among the emails we have already analysed, or paste it into the form and an editor will review it.
Six signs of a scam email
- Pressure. "Within 24 hours", "final notice", "your account will be closed". Real companies rarely give you hours.
- A link or attachment you did not expect. Invoices, parcel notices and "secure documents" you never asked for.
- The sender's address does not match the company. Look at the part after the @, not the display name.
- A request for a password, a code or a payment. No bank or provider asks for these by email.
- Blackmail with no proof. "I recorded you through your webcam" emails are sent in bulk. An old password of yours in the text comes from a data breach, not from your computer.
- Payment by gift card or cryptocurrency. These cannot be reversed, which is why scammers ask for them.
